Recieved a letter/envelope which started " parent of xxxxxxxxxx " and my address. Its a pre paid envelope but has no return address, will royal mail just bin it once its returned with " not known at this address".

Yes at the first point of contact, I agree. But you are asking them to get back to you with something more substantial to explain after that point.
