Opened it and its for a medical appointment, it has a nhs logo on the letter, but has come from the local school.

I want to phone the school and they will no doubt ask my name etc,
Another worry is, a school must want proof of a address when a child is enroled at school? so i will have to ask if any details have been supplied to the school about my address. To me now this has not been sent by mistake.

Is the school near you a well rated school, and the one near the persons new house not so good.

Of course it could just be that the parents have not updated the school with new address details, but either way give the school a ring and let them know that the parents don't know about this appointment, and they can speak to the parents.

The school won't give you any information about one of their pupils.

Send the letter back to the school, saying that the child doesn't live at your address. You don't have to give your name if you don't want to.

Also for your own peace of mind then, ask if they can call you back with an update of how or why it was sent to you .

to be honest I wouldnt bother asking that as there is (should be) no chance that the school is going to give any information about a pupils affairs to a random stranger calling.
Best you can hope for is an apology and it never happening again.

So i would be better sending it back through the post, stating its been sent to wrong address and hope they will remove my address or any details about my address from their database. They must quiz the parent about the address i asume.

Do you live at, say number 23 and they live at, say, number 32? (Could just be a typo when the address was entered in the school or medical practice records).

Yes, i have just walked past the house and the numbers are very very close to each other, even though odd/even numbers. ie 94, 93. Its the fact its happened before and as i asked in one of my posts, if a proof of address is needed to enrole a child in school?

So i am not sure now what to do, i dont want to walk round and hand over the letter to the house, because i would be allowing someone else's mail to be deliverd to my address.
I will probably still have to send it back stating a mistake, but another problem is private and confidential heading once the letter was opened.
I wish now i would just have thrown it back in the post box.

You can open someone else's mail so long as you do not act fraudulently with the information!

As pinkshoes says, it doesn't matter that you opened it.

Don't get too anxious about it - just send the letter back to the school with a note saying that the child doesn't live at this address.

Yes thanks that will be the best action, and if i get any more i will have to phone them.
Getting anxious i think, is because it may not be a mistake and my address has been used for whatever reason.

It's most probably just a typo, I've had numerous post over 10 years in this house and I usually ring the sender and just let them know. Ring the school and they can amend their records asap or correct the problem of the typo and let the parent know so the child doesn't miss the appointment.
