Pre-paid usually have some sort of bar code/link to an "account holder".
I'd write not at this address and pop it back in the post box, it's better to try than simply throw it in the bin.0 -
If the letter is to do with anything important or debt related, it's unlikely that simply writing "not known at this address" will have much effect in stopping future letters from the same source as the sender may well just think it's a ploy by the intended recipient.
You would be better off opening the letter and then writing to the sender, informing them that you the person that they are writing to doesn't live at the address stated and that you wish for their records to be amended.
It is perfectly legal to open mail addressed to others provided that you have a good reason to do so and that you don't intend any harm or loss to the person named on the letter.0 -
As above, just open it and see if ther are any clues inside.
You can open someone else's mail so long as you do not act fraudulently with the information!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

Ok.
With the phrase " parent of xxxxxxxx ( childs name ) i was thinking it could be school related? If i open it to find a phone number to call i hope i am not breaking the rules, but it sounds ok just to have the record put straight.:T0 -
As long as you done steal the contents or deprive the intended recipient of them, you can open it and check it to see the best course of action whether it was just a typo on the address or a genuine mistake or other.
I open everything that arrives here, a neighbour once tried to claim JSA using my address saying they sent it here by mistake.
But the letters kept arriving so we started sending them back with a note saying nobody with this name has ever lived here.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

That is in the back of my mind, 18 months ago a benefit letter arrived with another persons name on it, found out they lived quite close and they claimed it must be a mistake, but if i said they are known to police etc , it made me think it was no mistake.:T0 -
Recieved a letter/envelope which started " parent of xxxxxxxxxx " and my address.
About 1 year after I moved into my current house, I received a letter which was addressed the same as the one that you describe above.
I opened it to find the correct person to return it to and discovered that it was a fixed penalty demand arising from the 15 year old daughter of the previous occupant being caught travelling on a train without a valid ticket.
The date of the alleged offence was 11 months after they moved out so it appears that she gave her old address in the hope that it wouldn't reach her parents. (it may have been an oversight on her part, but after 11 months, I doubt if this was the case).0 -
Well i have been waiting for my good but nosey neighbour to come home, and right away knew the kids name, and low and behold its the same house who made a "mistake" with the benefit letter.
The letter i started the thread with is still in the draw unopened, but sounds a bit worrying now "2 mistakes".:T0 -
I would open and see if you can phone sender and give the info to them.0

Opened it and its for a medical appointment, it has a nhs logo on the letter, but has come from the local school.
I want to phone the school and they will no doubt ask my name etc,
Another worry is, a school must want proof of a address when a child is enroled at school? so i will have to ask if any details have been supplied to the school about my address. To me now this has not been sent by mistake.:T0
