The retailer can replace, repair or refund, at their discretion. You've no automatic right to a refund or replacement.
You really should read up on consumer rights legislation before giving "advice".
With faulty or substandard goods, a consumer can reject these goods within the first 30 days from purchase and get a full refund.
They do not have to accept a repair or replacement.0 -

To be fair though, a £160 bike will always be tat. For anything even half decent you would have to be spending £5000 -
if you do get a refund, go on gumtree and buy a bike on there.
I just got a cracking Giant MTB for £170, worth around £450 new and its only a year old i'm over the moon with it0 -

Only under the CRA 2015 though. I missed the crucial date (item purchased after 1/10/15) so thanks for pointing this out.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Does it just need setting up properly. The gears and brakes wont be set properly because the bike came in a box and probably dropped half a dozen times in transit.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Even if the cycle was purchased before the 1st October, the OP would still have been entitled to reject it and get a full refund as the SOGA allowed a "reasonable time" to reject faulty goods. (Trading Standards suggested that 10 days to 2 weeks would be a reasonable time).
The refund/replace/repair option that you mentioned only comes into play once the goods have been accepted.0 -
IMO it just needs setting up properly. As others have said cheap bikes are very difficult to setup0

Well either way I took it back tonight, told them the situation and they were absolutely fine with it. Didn't even check it over in the box just gave me a full refund and away I went.0
