    So, in brief ... :o
Tried once with '32 bit refresh disk' wouldn't do updates, maybe I was too impatient?
Tried again with a 32bit OEM disk that I have but it wouldn't accept the product key that I had harvested with Belarc
Tried for the 3rd time with 64 bit 'refresh disk' and after about 2 days of chugging along, we finally have it up and running on W10
A very tedious process on our 2 meg broadband, but I was determined to not let it beat me!! :D

Just one final query ... it hasn't asked me to install an AV, so I assume (a s s -u-me) that Win Defender is 'adequate' ... especially for a 10 year old!!
(I have also put CCleaner and MAB on so they can be used if necessary in the future)

Win7? Yes, updates can take a day or 2 to start coming through on W7 reinstalls.

    Debatable. But, yes, adequate.
