Good Morning everyone, much calmer weather here this morning and early rain has stopped so He Who Knows is out with Cookie and I'm just going to dust and vacuum through. I'm off to town this morning to A*di for some bits and pieces and then on a hunt for some stocking fillers, things seem expensive this year so I'll have to be inventive!
Following on from the article in the papers a couple of weeks ago stating that cured meats will give you cancer thus eliminating PIGS IN BLANKETS from the Christmas plate, yesterday in the Telegraph was an article that now says that well cooked TOAST, ROAST POTATOES and CHIPS will also give you cancer. The advice is to cook all these things as little as possible and have them as pale as possible and DO NOT shake up your potatoes if you parboil them to make them crispier as crispy things will give you cancer too!!! I'm waiting for Christmas to be banned in the next few days and the news that turkey, cranberry sauce and sprouts will kill you in an instant to appear with the same health warning.........and then there's CHRISTMAS PUDDING? I'm waiting for that to be banned too!!! Are we going to get to the point where they decide that just being alive is going to kill you? I wouldn't be surprised!!!
Have yourselves a good day all, Lyn xxx.0 -
I have put washing on the line, obvious cue for torrential downpour. Yesterday I foolishly believed the weather report, which said rain but that was a total fib and wish I had trusted my own instincts.
DH has taken DS to an appointment and says will fix loo on return.
tru, that is good news about your tooth (I think)
sistercas, I hope your day is not too distressing and that even though it is bound to be an emotional day, you may be able to look back on some lovely memories.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Hi everyone,
Sistercas, my condolences to you, the anniversaries are always hard. DD wore her late grandmother's locket on her wedding day, it was given to grandma by her husband on their wedding day - strangely, on the day he died, the chain broke.
We had another busy weekend helping DD and DS with DIY (even though DS was in Italy for most of the weekend. The good news is that the shelves are now fitted in DD's cellar so she can put her wine down there. She's off on a training course today - a beer training course, her DH is quite jealous I think.
I'm the phone holder for our Good Neighbours group this week, it's the first time I've done it so I hope it's ok.
Have a good day.0 -
Mrslurcherwalker I am now on last legs if this true, on Saturday my DH made me a few lovely crispy chips with fishfingers (my favourite thing and only eaten for a treat on Christmas eve and my birthday but they were having lamb chips ew)and yesterday I made crispy golden roasties with chicken, this morning I had toast and marmite, so I fear that I am not long for this world. AND we had sausages last week. What is next, tea I suppose, my staple foods are toast and marmite and I drink buckets of tea.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0

Morning,((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))if you need one. It was fine when I got up, now its raining, well the laundry can just stay out until I am ready to fetch it in!! Sick of the rain and winds, but thankful we have not had it as bad as some of you.
Off into town this morning. OH has an INR appointment, his next one will be at our local Drs in the next village. I have some shopping to do. The housekeeping seems to have melted away this month and we are only half way through. I have been using up stocks in the cupboard, so its looking a bit bare. Need to stock up.
I do have stuff in the winter store, but thats in case we are not able to get out.
Need to talk to DD2 about the size of Turkey crown to get, a small one is £13 the next one is £19. I have £20 in vouchers for Sainsbury, so am going to get it there. We are going to her for Christmas lunch this year.
Right better get on, time marches on.0 -
Morning all,
The wind has died down a lot now but apparently lifted the parasol from the table outside-DH insisted on keeping it up yet to stop falling leaves dropping on the table
I need to wait around for DS as we are meant to be having a loo delivered for downstairs today so cant take the pooch out yet till he can take over. The driver will ring when he's on his way apparently but has only got the house phone number.I've got my yoga class this afternoon too, though DH may be home by then.
He's hoping to get the rest of the flooring laid in the kitchen/dining room. With that and the toilet fitted, most of the jobs in the house are complete, apart from the cellar and a new front door but theyll have to wait till next year. We've been doing the house for 15 months now, though we only moved in nearly 6 months ago.The flooring will transform the room as its just dusty asphalt :j
Candygirl ( DGD is 6 )and Sunnygirl nice to see you back, perhaps some other older posters will delurk too.
Sunnygirl,I'm so sorry to hear about your DH,what an awful time you must have had, hugs.
Right DH is back, the job was only a small one so I can go out now and let him get cracking on the flooring.DS2 and the DGC here for tea - I will probably do breaded fish etc.
Take care everyone x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Good morning all and thank you for the welcome back wishes and hugs - you're all so lovely.
Can I just say that if tea is ever banned I will go and live on the moon!!
Today I am taking my son to college shortly then coming back to do my usual Monday 'clean through' of the house. Any deeper cleaning jobs can wait until later in the week. The dog, a Beagle, is now 11 and blind so he doesn't go out very much and can't be let off his lead at all so we'll have a gentle stroll later on. He was bathed yesterday so can show off how handsome he looks haha.
Lunch today will be some tomato and red pepper soup that I threw together on Saturday having discovered an enormous amount of tomatoes in the fridge. Tea is scampi that was discovered hiding in the freezer so nice and easy. I want to make pasties for tomorrow's meal this afternoon as well as I'm out at the Whitworth Art Gallery with my friend in the afternoon, which I'm looking forward to.
Family issues are with most of us to a point I think but hugs to anyone who is going through the mill with it at the moment.
Have a good day everyone and wrap up well if it's cold - it is here although not windy now0 -
TravellingAbuela wrote: »Morning one and all. Well the wind was still battering us all night but is forecast to ease off later thank goodness. The amount of rain we've had has been horrendous and there are flood warnings on many of the rivers hereabouts. We are ok as our village is at the top of a hill but we noticed the beck down at the bottom was well up yesterday.
Yes agreed - twice in the night I got up about 2.30am and again at 4am and the wind was howling. In fact it was pretty bad that at one point I thought the roof was going to come off. One of the conifers in the garden was bent at a 45 degree angle and I was convinced I was going to find it snapped in two this morning!
Wind has dropped considerably this morning, a fine dry and bright day, but still fairly breezy!
Good wishes to you all who have family situationsCat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:
