O/S Daily Monday 16th November 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.

Now getting light, still windy, but looks dry underfoot.

Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, green beans, peas, Yorkshires and gravy. There’s some LO’s they will be part of a meal at some point this week. Tonight we’re having gammon, egg, pots, and peas.

Back to work for me today, I worked Saturday morning and we weren’t that busy, so we’ll see what happens today.

We got DH’s report done yesterday so I’ve been able to cross that off the “to do” list. There’s still too much on there for my liking though! When I come out of work on Wednesday afternoon I will stop off and buy the drink and food that we’re taking with us for the weekend.

We visited my parents yesterday, DH doesn’t want to visit his parents as he’s just fed up with them moaning and going on all the time about how awful the world is and that they hate where they live and they want to move but can’t afford to, nothing’s there fault etc …. I’m sure you get the picture, I’m not completely in agreement with him not visiting them as if something happens to one of them he’ll feel guilty. Although he is right about how miserable they are, they are both now retired and basically they don’t have any hobbies, they do go out occasionally but not much, they just stay at home watching tv. They don’t have pots of money but they have had a brand new car every few years and always go abroad on holidays at least once a year – so they’re not going short. I’m dreading anything happen to one of them as they are bitter sad old people now, when one of them is on their own it’ll be even worse. I don’t mean that to sound nasty but there’s loads of historical stuff that really shows them for what they are, I’ve had some words with her in the past and they don’t like it much as I’m not scared of them and will tell them to their faces what I think.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all, nmlc thank you for the thread.
People do seem to be going through the mill with relatives. My mum and her OH are a very long way away, and although I have a sister very near them, it is still a worry as they are quite elderly now, with health difficulties.
Have up since twit o'clock and now the loo flush has broken.
    Working at home today again.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning All

Sorry so many of you have problems with your relatives, I just have a brother and his family, a couple of Aunts, an Uncle and a few cousins (one of which is a nasty piece of work). All a long way from here which is a shame, I get on particularly well with one of my Aunts.

Last night was rough - the wind was howling and the rain coming in sideways, hoping today is better. I went shopping to a town about 10 miles away and it took me an hour and a half to get back as the main A82 was closed due to flooding. Hope it's clear now as I have to go that way to work and there's no other way.

Washing on the airer, DW emptied and tonights tea sorted - I have a very dear friend coming for tea, she's 83 but you would think she was 50, really looking forward to it. Cottage pie and veggies already prepped.

Welcome back Candygirl and Sunnygirl, good to see you. Candy, can't believe your DGD is 6!

Have a good week, take care. XX
  • Morning one and all. Well the wind was still battering us all night but is forecast to ease off later thank goodness. The amount of rain we've had has been horrendous and there are flood warnings on many of the rivers hereabouts. We are ok as our village is at the top of a hill but we noticed the beck down at the bottom was well up yesterday.

My trip to TKMaxx yesterday was reasonably productive and I got quite a few gifts. Just DS and the DGD's to buy main presents for now, though all their stocking fillers were bought many months ago. (Oh and DD's BF too. I must pick DD's brain for ideas for him too. He's a lovely lad and so good with her and the girls, so I want to get him something nice) I am usually far more organised with my Xmas shopping than this but recent events have taken priority.

As a change from hospital visits we are at the GP's this morning. Mr TA has a doctor's appointment for a problem unconnected with his cancer. I suppose I should make an appointment for my annual BP review whilst there. Every year I put it off as long as I can. (White coat syndrome and all that!)

Afterwards I want to detour down to Home B's to stock up on toilet rolls and get a supply of Xmas gift bags. Last year they were selling them as cheap as anywhere.

Not much to make in the way of meals today. Quite a bit of chicken and veg left over from yesterday to warm up for our evening meal. Lunch will probably be HM soup from the freezer and a wrap.

Welcome back SunnyGirl. Have a good day all (((HUGS))) to those wanting/needing them and take care, especially if out in the strong winds xx

    Morning all,

Not raining here for a change, looks like it might be a nice day (fingers crossed) Scrap that its now pouring with rain !. Off to work for me I am shattered though as the mysterious banging outside the house was happening all night again, I will still awake at 2.30 as it was driving me mad, OH has been outside and looked all round but cant see anything, we think it must be something on next doors house so will have to go round there tonight.

Yesterdays roast beef for dinner tonight just need to shove it in the oven when I get in so a nice quick dinner tonight, I need to do an online shop too.

Have the majority if my Christmas shopping done now just need a present for OH and DD's stocking fillers.

Right better get on have good days all xx

    Morning everyone.

I've made it back from the Big Smoke in one weary but happy piece. Staying in the Docklands was an eye-opener as the place has changed considerably over the years. We had dinner in Narrow Street, did the cable car trip, visited Docklands Museum and then the Dr Who thing yesterday. Flight back had a very bumpy time.

Now I've got some mum-based chores to do today and so won't be able to head home before 3pm. The info from Camelot is worrying so I need to check out the roads and weather. London had terrible rain on Saturday as well.

Right, I need to head to the shower. I should have had one last night but I was too weary as the flight wasn't until 8pm so it was just before 10pm when I got back to mum's.

I hope everyone has a good Monday.

My back tooth was a tiny bit wobbly a couple of weeks ago, I have trouble getting to it even with tepe brushes. I paid it a bit of extra attention and it tightened up again. Til yesterday, when I knocked it with the toothbrush and it came really loose. So loose, I thought I might breathe it in and choke or something, lol, so I wobbled it and it came out :D I have a dentist appointment next week for a check-up, I was going to mention it to him and see if he could do something with it. Obviously I now know he'd have had to take it out, so the plus side is that it'll cost me £18 instead of £51 :D

Today I'll be sorting the fridge and writing a shopping list for fresh stuff. My spreadsheets need updating and I have some bookkeeping to do. Not sure about this afternoon yet. It's stopped raining and it looks a bit calmer out there, if it stays that way I'll do a bit of gardening. I was looking forward to watching last night's Jekyll And Hyde later, but some game show recorded instead. Bit miffed, lol.

    Morning all.

I love my relatives. They don't seem to like me much. :D

Lots to do in the house today as once again there's mud everywhere. With the men at work it won't take long to give the place a good clean. Youngest was homesick last week and hardly moved from his room all weekend.

    Onwards and forwards,

    Have a great day all.

sunnygirl welcome back so sorry to hear what you have been through , sending much love x

It's a bittersweet week for me , it's the 1st anniversary of my dads death yesterday , spent the day with my mum , she was remarkably strong , I did a Sunday dinner and we had a good natter about old times , tomorrow is my birthday so it does put a dampener on it but then the day after that Its dd1s graduation , I'm so looking forward to that :j. My mum has given her a silver locket that my dad bought her for their silver wedding anniversary , so I'm sure dd will wear that on the day

Off bra shopping today as I have 20% discount voucher , I hate bra shopping , I get all hot and bothered

It's still windy but has calmed down a lot , I lost a plantar in the wind yesterday , it spilled its contents and disappeared , it's probably at the bottom of the road ,I should go and look

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's the calm after the storm here this morning. It's a bit drizzly but quite bright but we are forecast more heavy rain this afternoon. Hubby and the girls have all gone off to work/school ok and it's just me and Max here. I'm not expecting any visitors today either so it will be a quiet day.

We had a fairly busy weekend with the grandchildren staying over. My grand daughter is desperate to learn how to knit after watching me so I have ordered her some smaller knitting needles and will teach her the next time she comes over. In the spirit of learning I have bought myself a learn to crochet book and will be trying that again. I have had no success as yeet but I will persevere as I love the look of crochet and want to learn how to make things with it.

I am going to delve into the freezer in a minute to see what we are going to be eating tonight. I think I have some giant meatballs that need to be eaten as I have another order from Musclefood arriving tomorrow. If not I think there are some chicken breasts so I can make a curry. Hubby concocted a rather strange mince and cocktail sausage meal yesterday but it did get eaten so it wasn't too bad.

Hello to the new posters :hello: it's lovely to 'meet' you.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Sunnygirl welcome back

Morning chums, bit grey and drear looking outside atm.I'm off to the cinema with my friend June who got married on Saturday :) her OH flew off to Prague on business last night for a week(unavoidable) so we are meeting up at Bluewater and going to see the Maggie Smith film The Lady with the Van then a late lunch and natter about Saturdays wonderful day.
Then to morrow I am at the cinema again as the local one has a 'crinkly' Tuesday morning where for £3.00 you can see a film and have a cuppa and a biscuit as well They are showing Bill Bryson's 'Walk in the woods' so as I've read the book I want to see if the film is as good :):)

Hope you all have a good and productive week.No food shopping to get until Wednesday as I have enough in stock to tide me over until then
