You can send faster payments. Think that is about it.0

Forgot to add, Santander would not give me another account, so this is why I was trying to save this one.
Also, I reckon you probably didn't earn much interest on this account for years now so it would be high time to close it anyway.0 -

As far as I remember, Abbey only ever had one sort code - 09-01-260

I cannot see that an account that old necessarily has a sort code. It may have been an account that could only be used to pay into or out of via a current account. Either way, stop messing about and ask Santander to either transfer the balance to a new account or close it.

Thanks, but I know online access is possible, a relative has it set up.

I wondered why you were so keen to get online access because I'd guess the account pays (virtually) zero interest now.
Presumably you have an eight digit account number without a sort code?
Could you ask your relative to check in their online banking to see what sort code is attached to their savings account?0 -

I don't have any other options for a local branch.
Santander are well known for giving contradictory advice between branches and by phone. Try another branch or phone the head office.

It will have the ability to receive payments but will have a standard Santander account number and sort code with the actual account number as a reference. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
