no sort code

My old Abbey saver account does not have a sort code, can I still register for online banking?
I just wondered if anyone had, rather than trying to ask them which will take an age.
Thanks.

All bank accounts have a sort code = has your old abbey account been transferred to Santander?
If so they only have a few sort codes for all their accounts -
Try http://findsortcodes.co.uk/results.php?searchstring=Santander&page=140 -

OP, the only ones who know for certain whether your account can be viewed and managed online will be Santander.0 -

All abbey accounts now are Santander - they will all have a sort code an account number plus in some cases a roll number.
Even when it was a B/S it needed a sort code if you wanted to pay by standing order.0 -
There is no sort code in the passbook or on the paper statement, that being said, I know online access is possible.
Its just when I try to register, it asks for a sort code.0 -
OP is it worth your while trying the sort code of the Santander branch your former Abbey Savings Account was opened in?
Might be a shot in the dark but if the sort code was transferred over it might be worth a try? It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
An Abbey acount will have been changed to Santander years ago.
Go into a Santander Branch, with your card, and some photo ID, and get the card updated.0 -

It was over 25 years ago, but I don't think it has its own sort code, just a generic one.
I did try a few savings sort codes but no luck.
I don't think there was any "change" to accounts when Santander took over.0 -
It will definitely have a sort code and account number.
All building society passbooks for example have a sort code and account number usually quoted just inside the front or back covers. This is the sort code and account number for the building society with their clearing bank.
You then have to quote the roll number (which is your account number with the building society) as a reference.
However if it is a passbook type account you may not be able to get online access. Perhaps now is the time to change the type of savings account you have with them for possibly better interest rates.0 -
For goodness sake, don't try using an account that old without confirming it hasn't entered dormant status0

lol the OP would be quicker opening a new account, Rather than going to all the bother of trying to get a 25 year old account back....0
