Good luck to them with that
News international have already had to pull the plug on charging for access for The Sun online as nobody would pay extraEx forum ambassador

Sky are planning on hiking their prices, considerably - shortly - due to an 83% hike in premiership rights (to fund the expensive lifestyles of some players)
I, for one, do not plan to be ripped off any further - so Freeview here we come !
Is there no government restriction on price rises (as there are on water, electricity and gas) since most people rely on Sky nowadays ?0 -
Most people do not rely on SKY nowadays .0

Well that news, and the reported price rises for all Sky services, has made up my mind. Early next year, I intended to take Sky, but was wavering. Now I have come down on the opposite side of the fence to Sky. No chance, Murdoch.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

ANYBODY who posts on MSE should already have negotiated much cheaper deals with Sky for TV/broaband/phone than the headline prices!0

Most people do not rely on SKY nowadays .
Ten millions UK subscribers and rising...
Pay TV. It's a human right, innit?
And OFGEM have not fixed maximum prices since back in 2002. Water is the only real price-regulated utility, since it's a regional monopoly. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
<Ten millions UK subscribers and rising...>
But that is nowhere near most people .
If the OP actually meant that Sky are the largest of the paid for services that would be true .
Come the revolution it will all be free so Wolfie says .0 -
Indeed -
Sky TV> 11m users (Now TV and Satellite as the 2 are now merged)
Freesat> 3m users (mainly Freetime based)
Virgin TV> 4.5m users (Cable TV)
YouView> 3.5m users (Digital Terrestrial Television)
Freeview> 26m users
Plus then OTT internet On Demand providers such as Netflix and Amazon Prime and the BBC iPlayer et al (all the rest).0 -
The merging of TV and the internet continues apace and viewing a mixture of terrestrial, satellite and internet TV is very common now. I, for one, make use of all three technologies with the cost of Sky now under increasing scrutiny.
I cannot see myself going the licence-free route (because live news, if nothing else, is, at times, essential viewing IMHO) but Sky's nearly £400 p.a. is becoming less and less easy to justify.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Last couple of years I've set myself a target at "Sky renewal time" of £5 per week max.- achieved successfully again recently with 60% discount and £100 bill credit - but I suspect that is going to be impossible next year, when the obscene amounts paid for Premier footy (and their overpaid nancy boys) has worked its way thru to the bottom line.:mad:0
