meanwhile the public are quite happily using these products and saving money

Are you just the public's spokesman on LED Lamps or do you cover any other subjects?

You can obviously quote me the estimated failure % rate of all consumer LED Lamps sold in the UK?

Would you be happy getting 2 years usage out of a product that was sold to you as having an average lifespan of 50,000 hours and 20 years? Don't answer that, i think i know the answer.

someone posts for help finding a lightshade, some people (quite sensibly) suggest led's as an alternative, and out of the woodwork appears people pushing their own site selling bulbs along with a book load of useless information, and another comes along going on about lumens trying to be smart, none of which are likely to aid the op

I look forward to reading your helpful posts, when you get around to it that is.

I haven't had any led failures, they have paid for themselves many times over, so all this guff about heat and theoretical lifespan is irrelevant.

£5 for an led bulb, £5 pa on electricity - £10 total, instant on, never fade.

or £100 on electricity to run each 100w bulb, and warm up the house a bit

    the tech has moved on

Come on, lets have a butchers at this £5 wonder LED Lamp then.

So, unable to link to a specific product? How helpful.
  • There are plenty of LED lamps which are just as bright as those horrid incandescent things.

But very few that can render colour as well as an incandescent and provide the same high quality of light.
  • LEDs are great and my house has them in every room, however the larger rooms have three way light fittings so are lit by 3 40w equivalent bulbs. I would not use the current batch of 100w equivalents as they are either prone to failure one are ugly great expensive things like this Phillips model.

Don't think I've seen any light shades recently rated higher than 60W.
