I paid the policy up front, not in monthly instalments

And they took the full payment without refunding any of it?

She has managed to get 4 months free insurance plus £75 compensation for the minor inconvenience of being pulled over. Considering that it was partially her fault that she didn't notice the premium wasn't paid she should be happy she has benefited from the situation!
I had paid the premium in full at the beginning of the policy term

When mine auto renewed, I checked to make I had a new certificate and payment was taken .
Payment was taken and I received a new insurance certificate via email. Theresults was nothing to indicate I was no longer insured. My insurance company blame a system error

So did I! I had paid the premium and had the certificate. My insurance company cancelled it without notification and have blamed a system error

@OP you really need to edit your post to reflect that you eventually cancelled the policy you took out whilst stopped by the police and purchased a new policy at a not so inflated price.

Unfortunately it's leading people to believe you're out of pocket by £1400, which is why they're saying you should be eligible for much more compensation, when clearly that's not the case.

Assuming your renewal price was an expected figure - not affected because of this mishap, and the police had dropped all charges. You're now in the same financial position as you were before hand.

What compensation are you expecting from the insurance company?

Take the £75 and chalk it up to a lesson learned - after all you need to check that you are insured, not just assume a policy is auto-renewed.
I had paid the initial policy in full and received a new certificate of insurance. There was nothing to indicate it had been cancelled and the insurance company blame a system error for the cancellation. Yes I did cancel the £1900 premium the next day, apologies for not making that clear

    two points:
1: Op you do not need compensation. It is ultimately your responsibility to make sure you have valid up to date insurance.
2: You got off so think yourself lucky
I paid my premium in full and had a certificate of insurance. How am I to know it got cancelled by my insurance company who have since blamed a system error?

I'm guess they just issued a "Letter of Indemnity" for the police and rearranged immediate cover.

Back dating / Reinstating cover is generally avoided due to the technical / system issues
    Yes that's exactly what happened

I paid my premium in advance and received an insurance certificate. What is to make me think I am no longer insured? My insurance company cited a system error for my insurance appearing to be cancelled

I don't recall the OP mentioning the other insurance was influenced by having a conviction. In fact there was no conviction.

OP said she had to fork out £1900 to re-insure with the same company (to avoid the charge being prosecuted, which could lead to a conviction), then cancelled that insurance within the 14 days cancellation period and went elsewhere. OP does not say the other insurance was escalated because of what had happened.

Now if the insurance was increased due to loss of NCD then that may be a reasonable loss. (e.g. because of the break in insurance). Basically, OP needs to quantify what losses she has borne due to the actions of the insurance company, then claim for that.
The reason the insurance company gave me for the huge hike in premium was the impending IN10
