It is not possible to spoof address as IP routing tables stop this from happening.
Somewhat oftopic but sadly, this is wrong. Spoofing a IP address is possible, DDOS attacks such as DNS amplification or Smurf all rely on it.If GE say the traffic came from that IP address and they have technical evidence to back that up AND the ISP confirms the address was allocated to you,
In isolation, without GE having access to the router logs between src to dst it is impossible for GE to say that the incoming traffic was not spoofed.
But, IP routing would only ensure that the traffic from the torrent goes to the correct non-spoofed IP address. If a TCP connection had been performed and the 3 way handshake completed, if would confirm the IP address was not spoofed.0 -
What film did you download to get this letter?
This pdf - http://goldeneyeint.com/Agree%20BD.pdf - suggests they have bought up some copyrights from Ben Dover Productions whose filmography on IMDB - http://www.imdb.com/company/co0104790/ may give you some hints.
This pdf gives a full list of the production companies should you need to research this a bit more - http://goldeneyeint.com/Court%20Order.pdf
I'm guessing they'll go for other ISPs later.

It looks like the witness statements linked to from http://goldeneyeint.com/sky.jsp
give lists of the titles. There don't seem to be any James Bond movies listed.0 -
ashleypride,
For the purposes of this discussion, i.e. content upload/down via torrent or similar it is not possible to spoof a public IP address. The views expressed here are my own. I am not a Solicitor nor am I affiliated with any of the parties I mention. If you disagree with any of my comments please say in whatever way feels most natural to you. No one self improves in a bubble!0 -
I believe what has happened in the past is that fake IPs have been "injected" into the torrent swarm. The fakes never get any data but anybody monitoring who they believe they are transmitting to will see those fake addresses. That's just my translation of what I think was being done based on things I read. The idea was to cast doubt on any evidence gathered by monitoring IPs in torrent swarms.

I'm not convinced that that any IP could be said to be participating in file sharing unless data forming part of the copyright material was actually received from that IP.0 -
pmduk,
I wouldn't pay them £90 either. They look as big a bunch of crooks as the Beckers. The views expressed here are my own. I am not a Solicitor nor am I affiliated with any of the parties I mention. Yep. Crooks as well. They get £90 for defending something that is as easy as falling off a log.
Jumping on the cash bandwagon. If you get a letter just send back the standard denail letter. 999/1000 you wont hear anything else.Cymru am Byth !!! :j:j:j0
