Meter readers

any reason why you don't allow the reader in, have you something to hide or adjust?
Thought most gas meters were outside nowadays.
Maybe most are but there are some that are inside and can be hard to reach places.0 -
Not brave enough to see if my key fits any of the neighbours' meter cupboards (that would look quite weird if one of them caught me!) but my cupboard definitely has a key, and after the meter reader had come, the meter door was definitely bent and swinging open. I've noticed several of the neighbours' meter cupboards look a bit misshapen, so presumably the same person has been pulling open their cupboards too!
If the key has a small triangular hole in the end it is a standard key.
It's hard to see how the meter reader could be forcing the doors open without significant and unambiguous damage. He'd need to force the door so hard it would bend the latching bar right out of shape, and if they were standard cupboards I would expect them to show cracking, at the very least, if that had been attempted.
Is it possible that he just didn't shut them properly and some bored child started 'playing' with them? There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Persa - it is quite possible that the meter reader didn't fully close the door - when they are reading 250 a day these things happen.
Time to put this behind you and move on.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Been quite windy today so I pop outside to see my gas meter door open. Probably not closed properly by the previous reader. Loads of meters have broken hinges if they are allowed to flap in the wind because the meter reader cannot be bothered to do their job properly. The man without a signature.0

Whose idea was to stick water meters so they are difficult to identify which one belongs to me, difficult to open and difficult to clear the water, it's difficult to read it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Our gas meter is capped and has been since the boiler went kaput after a flood three years ago. However British Gas keep 'forgetting' and the meter readers always look surprised when I tell them it's still capped and it's not going to uncap itself.... I don't mind them reading the leccy meter (saves me doing it) but the gas meter is a constant source of annoyance 😡*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

my meter is in a porch and the door is always open so they come in and read the meter, usually without asking. That is ok but twice recently they have got the readings vastly wrong. The meter is low down and you have to kneel, it is also shaded so a torch is needed. Twice I have had to photograph the reading and send the evidence, meanwhile having to go through the rigmarole of getting corrected bills. If it happens again then I will put in a formal complaint0

All the properties I have lived in all had external meters. Even the one in the block of flats. All bills were estimated. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I am going to send my latest readings, via the provider's site, before December 3rd, as requested, so any readings from the meter reader are worthless, as my readings will be more current and higher.0
