As the sellers are based in Hong Kong and probably operate on bigger scale and ship all items through Amazon fulfilment centres.
And they might have packed the magazines for other customers but got delivered to you instead.
On big warehouses these things happens.
I know it's frustrating and time consuming when things go wrong and you have to go back and complain.
You have yet to receive the refund.
But look at this way, you got it sorted quickly.
And once you have the money, just go to Currys and buy from them as they are offering 10% cashback on Apple products.
Good luck0 -

Yup. Only the other day we found out that we had sent a wrong pallet of goods to a customer. All just by a wrong label being stuck on . Its rare but it happens.Dont rock the boat

If it was fulfilled by amazon, that means that it was in amazons warehouse (and given the item in question, it would have been in a secure cage - along with cameras, mobile phones etc - which only a handful of people have access to) and that it was picked, packed and shipped by amazon. Amazon keep strict control of their stock and employ a team to continually check that the stock levels are as they should be and also that the correct stock is in the correct place with the correct label.
I imagine thats why they were willing to refund without a fight (because they should be able to pinpoint what went wrong and where it went wrong) and also why they didn't pay any attention to OP's claims that the seller had scammed him - given it was amazon that handled the order. You keep using that word. Amazon warehouse and ship the item, but do they actually pack it? Would it not come in from the merchant already sealed into it's packaging?
All depends on how you define 'fulfill', and I believe that Amazon offer a number of merchant services.
Was this an Amazon Marketplace product? No free lunch, and no free laptop

OP states it was a marketplace product, that's the point of most of the thread?
The outer packaging would be Amazon, the seller ships the products to Amazon and they then package and despatch them. The way I read the OP there was nothing ipad related in the box, just the magazines.0 -
OP is probably a competitor on Amazon trying to trash the competition

The point I was trying to establish is that Amazon then have no way to verify the actual contents of the stock they are holding, any more than the Post Office know what is in the box you pay them to deliver. They are reliant on the item description, which presumably said iPad?No free lunch, and no free laptop

I take it you missed the rest of my post where I said that small high value items are kept in a secure cage that only a handful of people will have access to? Where as the magazines would be stored normally without additional security.
And also where I said that amazon keep strict stock control by not only checking stock levels, but also that the correct item is in the correct "bin"? That involves checking each item individually. They have a dedicated team who's job is to do ICQA all day every day.
In other words, if the magazines were swapped out for an ipad, there is going to be records of who scanned that item out. There will be a record of who packed it etc also.
On top of that all their staff go through detectors and have their entire body searched every time they leave the warehouse floor. As well as the warehouse floor also being full of cameras.
Again, just demonstrating why amazon might not be concerned. They've got everything pretty tightly sewn up on their end and it was them who handled the order. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Smells fishy to me .
Probable answer was the parcel has been hijacked some place along the delivery route .
More likely a return scam. Buy an iPad, replace iPad with magazines, re-seal, return as unused. Amazon add iPad back into stock and re-sell. Chances are returned stock is tracked separately from new, even if it's still sold as new. That means Amazon would have known they'd sold previously returned goods and so may have given more credence to OPs complaint than they would if the stock had been direct from Apple.0
