I had my letter today for the £3.49 monthly hike. Phoned virgin retentions which did not offer much of a discount. I asked if they could match the price of a new virgin media customer which worked out £5 a month cheaper than I am paying now which they wouldn't. So in the end I went ahead with the cancellation, now to look for a new provider...any good broadband deals around?

My letter said the monthly increase would be £3.49 (£2.49 in reality as this was including line rental which I had already paid). Rang them up to cancel, and they asked is there anything they do to keep me- I asked for a credit to offset the 8 months worth of charges, so they credited my account with £20.49. Pretty stress free really.
