True!
But people should be made aware of the possible pitfalls.
JC+ are not in the habit of telling us everything.0 -
With me they looked favorably on the fact that i did voluntary work, it showed willing as they said0
-
For me with courses and volunteering it was a case of them wanting to know the hours and make sure it wasn't too many and they wanted all the details. Second it was their choice I was volunteering all day, 4 days a week and at a work provider all day the 5th day.
The 5th day was supposed to be searching and applying for work in the computer room, but they blocked almost every site and I didn't trust logging in to anything there and could have done far more at home.
The later on they wanted me to "volunteer" for 25 hours a week (I think it was, pretty sure) for the JC.
Some people have been told they won't allow them to do voluntary work, although it makes no sense why.
The JC have very mixed reviews on volunteering and they much prefer it when they're in charge (usually forcing unpaid work rather than volunteering).0 -
Thats not to say people shouldn't volunteer by the way, it's a good idea, but as said already it may not have the positive outcome you'd expect regarding the JC and, sadly, it's no guarantee of a job.
For some stupid reason not all employers consider volunteering as real work experience or not as valuable as those paid to do the same thing0 -
I said it before and I say it again.
JC+ just want you off the register, and they must be doing a good job. When I signed on recently there was hardly anyone there. About 4 staff members and about as many signers. There were more security staff than anyone else. Perhaps there all on the Work program doing skivvy work for £2.40 PH.:undecided
I think their getting ready for the Universal Credit system.:rotfl:
They don't care about how or why your off the register. By hook or by crook, by fair means or fowl.
Rant Over!:mad:0 -

Yep. The WP are part of that and making it look like the JC are trying.
Either that or getting ready to go get coffee lol.
My local JC had quite a few staff members. There were more than 10 tables I think with a member of staff and there were staff in the back/walking around, plus a guard of two. Gradually the number of people going there to sign on seemed to go down. Now it's basically empty except for staff as they sent a large number of people to another JC further away because the staff just didn't want to deal with them and refused to take them back. Surprised they haven't just closed it.
Even when it was busier the staff were chatting away and drinking tea/coffee because having someones opinion on the weather is very important and you can't possibly drink with someone in front of you lol.0 -
Hey Flyonthewall,;)
Bearing in mind all that we have discussed, mainly about JC+ trying to scrutinise our UJM job search anyway they can, with a view to sanctions.
I just had a thought.:j
Even though JC+ have told me that I have to record my job search activity in the Activity History section of UJM, they have not specifically stated that I have to apply for jobs through UJM. UJM says that it is just a venue. Many if not all the job ads on UJM are simply copies of jobs on other job sites, such as Monster(which hosts UJM), Jobserve, Totaljobs etc. If someone sees a job they like on UJM they don't have to click on it and apply, but just go to the original site and look and apply there instead. This way we can still apply for those jobs, but without the hassle of possible sanctions by not applying for jobs we have viewed on UJM, should we choose to do so.:)0 -
If people spent as much time job searching as they did finding ways of getting out of what they have been told to do by those paying them the JSA, the country would be better off.0

If the JC staff spent as much time helping people find jobs and ways out of unemployment (e.g. suitable college courses) as they do finding ways to get rid of people and avoid spending money on people who actually need it to get to interviews to get a job, the country would be better off.0 -
