  • I *know* only a bloke would think this way, but...

Reading this and the cat-problem threads, I want to fill my waterpistol with *my* water.

It feeds the garden and repels the feline visitors.

  • If there is a wee expert out there could you clear this up once and for all?:rotfl:

Re: the gender issue - My aunt used to collect her urine in a bucket during the day then dilute it with as much water as she could carry in the bucket (she was in her 70's)

She then crept out in the dark and watered her lawn. She had the best grass on the street but was too ashamed to admit when asked how she got it!

So - we definitely seem to have accepted that male urine is very healthy for the garden. But the jury still seems to be out on female urine - on the grounds of the female hormones in it may be problematic. Looking at the above post - it would tend to confirm my suspicions that when we refer to "female hormones" we mean the hormones in the Pill and/or normal female hormones prior to the menopause. From your aunts experience it would seem that, if neither of these things apply, ie the woman isnt on the Pill and has gone through the menopause (with consequent natural changes in the hormone levels) that hers at least would count the same as a mans for fertiliser purposes.

Can anyone clarify whether I am right on this.

I have been emptying my daughters potty on the lawn for months, just used to do it on one patch then saw how green and lush the grass was getting, so now do the whole lawn!

Brilliant!! :jI'm potty training my youngest now. I can use it on the lawn or for the compost bin that we recently bought.

    According to this:
    http://plantanswers.tamu.edu/turf/dog_lawn_problems.html
It's due to the method of disposal i.e. female squat compared to male spray which causes the burn marks from dogs.

I know from watching the Outragous Wasters program both a mixture of adult male and adult female urine from the toilets diluted with water was used to fertilize the plants. Some families on the program have more females than males i.e. 4 to 1 and the toilets are composting toilets.

There has been some research done in the developing world about using the villiages' urine in toilets. (I will post a link later)

From the sites that state you can use urine as a fertlizer for food plants, they state that the plants shouldn't be picked for 2 weeks. :D
