Such a shame that this is considered 'normal'.

I meant normal in terms of physical development (not society's expectations.)

I borrowed my mum/dad's razor at the same age and shaved my under arms because I wanted to. I was sporty and swam competitively.

My other daughter doesn't remove body hair and is 14, much more unusual in a mixed school environment, but again, her choice. It's up to the individual surely? And nothing 'sad' about it; it's really no big deal either way.
  • My DD was 6 when she started sweating a lot then I noticed a few hairs too. I was quietly v worried that her periods could come so young but the Doctor sent her for blood tests and referred to a specialist to check for early puberty. It was all very quick and they were lovely. Turns out she only had the 'boy' hormones slightly elevated and it was quite common for them to come earlier than female ones (smell and hair and spots although not as often at age 6 on a slightly built child which is why they checked quickly) and luckily nothing to worry about. She's almost 10 now and while she has more hair she doesn't seem to smell as much now but she does suffer with a spotty forehead - Im just pleased no breasts or periods yet. The specialist told me periods generally come 12 months after first signs of breast tissue. Ive had a talk with her and made it all very 'normal' as I'd hate for her to be worried to talk to me about anything.
    xx
  • My husband works as a GP and says he's seen quite a number of children in clinic who have started their periods by 9 or 10. It seems so young, but I guess that's the way it is :)
