Puberty - 8 year old girl

I wonder if you should ensure she carries a spare pair of clean knickers tucked away discreetly in her school bag in case her first period arrives unexpectedly. As she's already showing signs of pubity, perhaps encoursge her to wear some panty liners too to avoid an embarrassing flood which could arrive unexpectedly. If she's in a mixed class which includes boys when it happens it could really embarrass and distress her if her if stains penetrate beyond her underwear so anything you can do to ease the transition for her will be helpful. We can probably all recall some of those embarrassing moment when things first started and being prepared will help her confidence.0

Such a shame that this is considered 'normal'.
?? Just because someone's not average doesn't mean they're not normal.
I started periods at 9, sis at 11, other sis at 17!! and there's nothing wrong with her she has 2 children now.
So what, everyone is different0 -

I was referring to the hair removal at 8, not the existence of the hair.0 -

I thought she was refering to the hair removal.:(Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I think you've handled it brilliantly tbh, its good she was able to talk to you in the first place and even better now she knows she can come talk to you anytime.
I hit puberty at 8, and had my first period at 10 (i vividly remember coming home from school, seeing it and running to my mum in tears because i thought i was dying :eek:she got me a little denim purse thingy and filled it with sanitary products). As far as body hair and b.o goes i was very very conscious of the body hair on my legs, i hated it, mainly cos i felt everyone would notice and that i was different to everyone else, and once i started getting it under my arms hated it even more. Mum didn't want me to shave at that age but i begged her to help me get rid of it so we agreed i could use veet. I also got boobs early on and refused point blank to wear a bra as nobody else my age was and i again didn't want to be different. Its not easy going through changes, more so when you're an early starter, but having someone to talk it through with makes it easier to cope with.

Blimey I was definitely a late starter at 16!!!!
3 daughters all at 13, but knew so many of their friends were early starters.
Op it sounds like you've got it licked, your daughter is a lucky girl.0 -
Lil-lets do a teen range of sanitary towels, liners, etc, which are tiny, discreet and ideal for an 8-year-old - Poundland usually stock them. I wish I'd had those when I started my periods at 10, instead of the horrible bulky towels which fastened on to a belt. I mean, it was the 70s, not the dark ages! And 40 years on and I'm still regular at clockwork!
Incidentally I also started developing, as did my best friend, at 8. I remember my very plain speaking grandma telling me I was literally making mountains out of molehills, when I complained about being "different" for having to wear a bra.0 -
My 'little one' (not so little now
) is 9 and started getting itchy breasts, and the left one was growing more than the right so i took her to gp earlier this year. She checked her out and just confirmed it was her breasts developing but to make sure they grew evenly etc
She has pubic hair growing and discharge, and ive noticed her face is shiny over the past few weeks, so i have been encouraging her to wash her face with water every morning. Her pits are starting to whiff, but its more of a sweaty smell than a B.O smell? Is that what your girl has?
I am trying to hold off introducing deodrant because of the chemicals etc but may give that boots one a go. She has no under arm hair, but has very hairy legs. She won't be shaving until she is older though!0 -
My DD started the BO smell when she was just 6, we managed it until she was 7 by washing every morning and evening but then she showed other signs of puberty and the penny dropped. She uses the fresh kidz deo and it has made a massive difference to her self confidence as she was very aware of smelling before (even though she didn't most of the time once she started washing).
8 is classed as normal, DD had tests and x-rays as she was younger, luckily (?) only the adrenal gland had entered puberty so she didn't need intervention, at almost 10 she hasn't progressed any further (just BO, hair and regular discharge, no breast buds yet). At 6/7 she was very conscious of her hairy legs, but doesn't want to remove it in case she gets picked on. She knows if she wants to that I will help though.
She is now in Y5 and at the beginning of the year came home laughing because the teacher had recommended that all the kids look at using deo as the room was getting a bit whiffy, I guess the rest of the class is catching up.0
