The screen shots do show an active current account.

Although it doesn't ring true that you need a Tesco current account before you can open one of their savings accounts because they had savings accounts long before they launched the current accounts.

Pretty sure you needed active current account to open a saving account
I have two saving accounts and no current one.
    So does my wife.

I wouldn't call it a peculiarity as such, more a conscious business decision.

When they decide something needs to be cut for commercial reasons (almost inevitable), they can quietly axe the condition that said you could have more than one such account. They (taking Tesco as an example) would have to send letters to all current account holders if it was one account paying interest on up to 6k and they wanted to reduce it to 3k.

I think in both your scenarios they (again using Tesco as an example) would have to write to all customers, whether or not they had more than one account.
  • Thanks again, all.
OK yes it did allow an internal application. I was put off by the fact that the preamble was similar to the first application.
The reason for my caution was because earlier in the evening, I was declined a second account with Bank of Scotland (only offered a cash account) despite successfully securing one a few days ago. What do you think might be the reason, and should I wait before applying a third time? The Tesco second account application was successful BTW.

    OP amended.

Strangely the same thing happened to my wife opening BOS Classic accounts at the start of November. She successfully opened her first account, then 24 hours later was only offered their basic account. We left it a couple of weeks, and reapplied while logged onto her online banking and then easily got her second classic set up. 24 hours later we set up her third account via the BOS homepage, ie not logged in to Internet banking, as I've had issues getting a third account before.
