    +1 also for the BT8500 - it's brilliant.

One minor negative for me is, very infrequently, a new caller that I would normally be happy to take a call from is put off by the Call Guardian message and simply hangs up.

The benefits however massively outweigh this and the impact can be minimised by manually adding as many numbers as you know to the Contacts list beforehand - thus allowing somebody who is calling for the 1st time to the phone to get straight through, as all Contacts are whitelisted.

I would also like a feature where I could whitelist my own area code but aside from that it's a great phone and extremely effective at blocking nuisance calls.

Is there not a wildcard feature in the phone book so you could whitelist say 01925* to whitelist Warrington (not that you'd want to ;))

Sadly no, although blacklist/block by area code is a feature.

ooaagh that's a bit of a shame - blacklist but no whitelist for area code :(

Maybe in the next release :p

Oh, and AlienRiK will probably be along shortly to advise you to install AVG on it :D

The actual Truecall unit on which this is based can allow a whitelist for area code.

    It did, yes.

The actual unit itself has many more features than the BT8500 - really depends on what you want.

And no mechanism/process for firmware updates.

But I'm still very happy with it.

If you block, or don't answer WITHELD calls you may miss an important call.

Many large organisations use this option to avoid someone ringing back from a missed call and not knowing which extension number called them.

Our local hospital is an example, but any company with phone extensions in multiple departments is likely to do so.

The BT8500 does a pretty good job of stopping junk calls, but the software on the phone is not very well designed and rather buggy.

If they go through screening the call will be passed on with Truecall/BT8500. They can also leave a message to be contacted.

Our hospitals and doctor seem to use an NHS number that is deemed a Priority Caller on my Truecall unit so they get through with no screening.
