Monday 9th Nov - what small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

Hi everyone
Thought I'd get us kickstarted seeing as the hound got me up before 6am - obvs not feeling well - has been out in the garden 3 times (twice just to eat grass...) and won't eat his breakfast - really not like him...
DNMS - Just for you I switched back to the old-style forum so I could put a smiley on the thread - It's the small things after all
Hope everyone has been getting on well. It's been nice to see the thread so busy this weekend. I wonder if some of the lurkers will post soon too - they'd be more than welcome to...
Here's me:- B/L/D from stores
- Check banking and ccs
- Long day at work - I can feel a bonus coming on

- Hopefully a bit of voluntary work

- Send (or at least prep) an email to yoga peeps - see if I can get some newbies for the last block before xmas :xmassmile
- Look at deals on microwaves - decided we do need one after all...
- Saved some £2 coins for the 'eating out' stash
- Reminded OH that he can put his smash in the terramundi

- Bit of online first aid course :A
ETA - just signed up for 2 free Future Learn courses - v exciting - going to do the nutrition ones that start in January. https://goo.gl/OoRkfs
Catch up soon everyone!0 -
Good morning everyone

Thanks for the start La E - cats have had me up on and off from 4am. I hate when the weather is so bad, because they want to be out and then when they see what it's like out there they change their mind
I have no idea where the weekend went to, but can't believe it's Monday morning already. Here's today's list:
check banking - no PAD
aim for nsd
leave a list of jobs for dh
full day of teaching
mark a set of books
prep for my lesson observation tomorrow
go to my friend's exercise class
discuss cost of training sessions with my friend
make no big decisions as I'm tired
all meals from stores
fix a hoover my mam has given us, which is newer than ours but needs a bit of repair work (and I do love a hoover every day, :rotfl:)
I think that's it - I'd best go and get ds out of bed or we'll start the day late.
Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

Morning Campers,
Mr f back to work today after lovely week off, so I have lots of catching up to do. Today I will:
*Re-start calorie tracking.
*Peg towels out on line until rain starts. Rest of it on heated airer.
*Load Washer for another cheap overnight wash.
*Make a pasta bake using leftover gammon & sweetcorn & anything which needs using up.
*Empty out tomato-ripening bag & give up on any green tinies now.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Make new spreadsheet for my energy meter readings & do the maths to get it up to date.
*Enter 2 competitions.
*Pick lettuce for tonight's salad.
*Water greenhouse stuff.
*Get up to date with admin & filing.
*Try to finish front of Dad's jumper. Fairisle panel done. Another few cms then I can shape shoulders & neck.
*Turned heating down in my HQ. Mr f had snuck it up 2 notches to keep cat warm!!
*Design some labels for the cranberry chutney jars I'm giving as gifts as this dropped off the list last week.
*Update grocery budget to reflect small spend yesterday & some cash from mr f to cover an item he bought on visa debit.
*Plan generally for a focussed, effective week in which I hopefully achieve lots of stuff.
Have a good start to the week, everyone.
F x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Morning all

It ended up being a spendy weekend for us as OH's phone had died and had to be replaced. Still, (with my help) he resisted pressure to take on an expensive new contract (which O2 were really not happy about :rotfl:), paid for the (mid range) phone he had chosen and continued with his sim only deal
I don't know if you end up paying more if you get a phone tied in to an expensive monthly contract as opposed to just buying one, but we had the cash in savings to buy one and didn't want another big monthly direct debit!
So, extra effort needed this week, to begin to replace the savings  Today's efforts:
Peg washing on line and put away the stuff on the airer Done
Dog walk x 2 - free exercise for dog and me
Done
General tidy up Sort of done
Find an old phone for recycling, along with OH's broken one. Might even get a few pounds for them
Not done yet
Make a loaf in the BM Done
Go to sales unit, tidy up and see if more stock needed Done, not much gone unfortunately
Polish the silver plated items that I didn't do yesterday
STILL not done
Make a quiche as I have lots of eggs Done
Also made a cake
Wash kitchen floor Not done
Postal survey tasks, plus any online surveys and FPL Done, and RM Surveys sent me free sellotape as well Ally
Sort out some more items for the charity shop bag, and take it with me when I go to the post office Done
Mins items today:
#27 & 28 - 2 small white dishes
#29, 30, 31, 32 - 4 pretty but useless odd saucers
All gone to the CS with the bits that I sorted out over the weekend
Check fridge to make sure everything is ok - prepare and freeze anything that looks as though it might go off before I get to use it Chopped up the few HG spring onions that were left (the small ones) and mixed them in with left over mashed potato and browned for supper
Chopped and froze 3 small peppers that were starting to look a bit wrinkly
Right, better get on! Hope everyone has a good day

Ooh I like the idea of a pasta bake Mrs F! Might steal that one to use up some of the spoils of my fridge audit

Good morning all!
Popping in here cheers me up on a November morning...
Thanks to LaE for starting the thread,
Here are some DFW steps for today.
1. Keep posting everyday on the small steps thread
2. Signed up for myvouchers with Sainsbury (thanks to Crazycatlady for that tip!)
3. Resurrected a winter coat from the wardrobe and realised its not that shabby so will last another winter!
4. Scraped together enough change around the house to get lunch sandwich
Have a great day all!Retiring August 31st 2026.0 -

Hi DNMS,
I do a lot of crochet and I think, reading around, that grip etc is very different for each crocheter, but people often talk about whether you have a "knife-type grip" or a "pencil-type" grip. I definitely use a knife grip but perhaps you might be more comfy trying the opposite of what you're currently doing IYSWIM?
There are also different yarn holds, so it may be worth nosing around the internet for some.
The other thing that seems to differ is whether you "yarn-over-hook", which is how the stitches are written, or "hook-under-yarn". I certainly move my hook hand much more than my yarn hand, and it's the hook that does most of the work for me.

Morning folks!
Thanks to La E for starting us off
Very sleepy clf today. Too much weekend partying
but on the plus side I'm half way through the baby blanket
The down side is that I think I'll need more blue yarn. I suspect that my tension is slightly looser than the project (gauge is for wussies!) plus the yarn type is different. Meh, you live and learn!
Today's list:- B/D from stores (going to pick up some lunch, naughty me)
- Charge phone in work - done
- Ring energy supplier with some smart meter queries - done
- Try to get through to relevant department at Vodafone to move direct debit
- Check online banking and reconcile spreadsheet
- Crochet (woohoo!)
- One small housework-type job if I feel up to it later (just struggling with my energy levels atm)
- Pay for crossfit. Had budgeted £40 each but due to the number of "pay-as-you-play" people, it's only £28 each - will ask OH what he thinks we should do with the difference - done
Have a good one all
