Untaxed/No MOT/Not SORN'd Vehicles

Hi All,

For the last week there has been 2 cars that are not legal parked just outside my house. One of the cars has not had an MOT since 2011!

I have reported them to the DVLA via the online forms but wanted to know what else I can do to get them removed?

Parking is limited where whe live at the best of times so not having access to these 2 spaces is causing issues.

Are they parked on the public road outside your house?

Set fire to them and then call the fire brigade?



OK, maybe not
They may not be taxed etc. but you've reported them to the authorities, just leave it at that.

Yes they are outside my house but thankfully I don't have to look at them as the car park area is raised.

I'll just wait and see what happenes but it's just so frustrating to see it happen in the 1st place!

Report the seemingly abandoned cars to your Council too, they tend to send someone to check things out fairly quickly and will take appropriate action.

Are they parked on private land, or the public road which the council maintain?

Bearing in mind the DVLA can also recover vehicles from

• Parking bay provided for housing association homes.
• Road owned by a housing association.
• Supermarket car park.
• Retail car park.
• Company car park.
• Council owned car park.
• On waste ground, park or other public open space.
• Public house car park.
• On or in an unadopted road or alleyway.

And not just on a road I'd be onto them.

this is a question I would like the answer too.


the previous "renter" of my property (housing assoc) was disabled , and she paid the local council/housing assoc monies to create a dropped kerb and lay 20 ft x 10ft of tarmac at the end of a children's play area , they relocated the railings to allow the car parking space


so we have an entrance that crosses a pavement now.


the local housing assoc treat this as non public , as they have signage from a private parking Co , upto recently , and I have been given rights and a permit.


is this classed as a place the DVLA can clamp at?

Yes, as it's not owned by the vehicle owner therefore not a private place under the legislation.

ok , but it was paid for (or the creation of it) by the previous owner and this was passed onto me , NOTE: there is only space for one car , and I have been granted sole use of it ,


its a funny situation , does this imply that any one that rents a house with garden (lets say housing assoc) , and pays the counsil for a dropped kerb cannot pave there garden and park , because it is not owned by them , but rented?

You have the use of it but not the ownership as the previous tenant didn't own it either.
