I've used non dairy cream but didn't know there was a non dairy hard cheese. Will have a look, thank you :)

I've been vegetarian since I was 11. I enjoy the vegetables, with chestnuts as a treat for Christmas. Too much faff peeling them for regular nosh.

I think if it was just for one I would either do a little veggie tart which is easy enough with ready made pastry or make a whole dish and freeze portions for other meals. On my own I would happily have curry but with a gang of meat eaters, something to replace the meat is better for me as I want all the veg and sauces they are getting.

A bit disappointed in this recipe tbh, it's the usual egg and cheese in pastry concoction, may as well just stick to spanakopita.

My grandmother didn't agree with being vegetarian, but that didn't stop her making an amazing field mushroom pie, with sliced field mushrooms and onion gravy:D

One year she added chestnuts and it was sublime.

thank you, I have just decided what i am having - i have made a mushroom pie in a port and onion gravy with a peppery mash topping (it was amazing). I am now thinking of posh mushroom mix with chestnuts!! i can make and bake ahead and heat in the microwave as I am doing full roast turkey and trimmings for the first time for the family and will have no oven space for my meal also due to pork allergy don't want my meal in the oven with the pigs in blankets!!

  • I made a nut roast type thing one year for our family herbivore but it's flavour wasn't too dissimilar to the sage and onion stuffing so last year I made an individual puff pastry pie with various veg in it and some chestnuts, it all got eaten anyway. This year I'm buying one of these from Tesco http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=289820831
