Updating Windows 8 to Windows 10

the way you are doing it at the moment (downloading direct from MS) is probably the easiest and safest for you,
IF , you want to then do a clean install at a later date , providing your upgrade has been accepted by microsft (servers) you can then do a clean install , this may speed the machine up , as there will not be loads of stray files or registry settings floating about.
as you have read , there are several ways to "burn" an ISO of win 10.
if you decide to go down this route at a later date , all methods can be explained to you .0 -

Ive installed many operating systems via a disk with an ISO burned onto it. I'm just a little rusty as Ive had priorities elsewhere over the last few years. As it stands, W10 seems to run pretty well on my computer so I am quite happy up to now (Although before doing anything else on it, I 'may' go via ISO to see how that pans out).
Cheers :beer::idea:0 -
go to "all settings" (bottom right) and update/security and check that your copy has been activated0

Its all good :beer::idea:0 -
I tried yesterday to go from a factory reset of Windows 8 to Windows 10. No joy.
I then downloaded a shedload of windows updates. No joy. wouldn't even allow me to updated windows 8.1
Somewhere in windows 8 there is a troubleshooter for fixing windows update (don't ask me where, like everything in the Windows 8 Catastrophe, its in there somewhere). Anyway,after it ran it told me it fixed something.
I then had a bash at updating to Windows 10 (from Windows 8) and it installed - I didn't know it was possible to install without 8.1.
Anyway, it was an entire day wasted, it is a complete shambles and the quicker people get rid of that Windows 8 crap, the better place the world will be.0 -
the win 10 upgrade is going to be very short lived , after 12 mths it will no longer be an option , unless MS release a win 10 "upgrade disc " , however this is not needed nor any reason to be made until win 10 stops becoming a free upgrade0

I'm sure I recently read online that Microsoft were going to 'force' upgrades on those computers that hadn't already:idea:0 -
quite possibly WHILST the free upgrade is going on , however , next june/july or whatever when the free upgrade finishes , they have promised support for 7/8 for several years , and can only hope to "persuade" people by offering a very good price on the "forced" update0
