As I hate Windows 8 with a passion and I wanted others to test the waters first (And As I have been very busy this last year), Ive finally got round to trying to update to Windows 10 on a Packard Bell lappy I have
Installed ALL updates I could
No joy at all
Googled and found I need 8.1 (Which wasn't in an update?), so forced that through the Microsoft site
Updated everything again
Still no joy (And getting angry by now, why is nothing ever simple!?)
Google again and see a way of FORCE installing windows 10
Downloading as I type this.............

I had to reinstall Windows 8 from the recovery partition. I didn't install anything. Then I upgraded to Windows 10.
Problems during upgrade. Touchpad drivers did not work. Solution - External mouse.
Took quite a few hours.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

Why did you have to recover windows 8?
Updates were failing. Although I could have spent time investigating the problem it was just much easier to start from scratch.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

Just found this page which may help http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10?tab=Wiki&auth=1
also if there is an issue with your PC like a corrupt file I believe 10 wont install or so I am led to believe.
try a disc clean also to get rid of any junk, there is some thing on the windows 10 thread on here that is about mile long about cleaning your pc before downloading 10 https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5252271

Maybe I am being a bit dumb here, but after downloading and running the 'tool' it simply installed. I thought I needed to burn an ISO. Did I miss a trick there?:idea:0
