    OK OK its "but the ABS unit sensor was damaged during the work (when the car was still in the workshop). " Whatever an ABS sensor is. As its not on the wheel, shouldn't have got rusted up.

    The ABS sensor ops referring to is likely the brake pressure sensor in the unit.

    It is pressure sensor within the unit, not the sensors on wheel.

    The car is 15 years old Mercedes, s class. For the broken sensor, the garage people says it is just bad timing or my components are brittle and easy to break.... I think neither of these two excuses are acceptable.

  • Things get old and parts corrode in place, the garage tried to renew the seal for you and it didn't work this time, thats part of the problem with running older cars and why main dealers don't get involved in repairing things and just fit complete new units instead.

    If it was working properly before they had it you wouldn't have took it in for repair, hopefully a used unit can be found and the fix still fairly cheap.

    They run the diagnose and the computer says the sensor is not functional. The damaged sensor is the pressure sensor inside the ABS unit, not the ones on wheel.

    If it were a wheel sensor I think you would just have to pay the men, the damn things can be impossible to shift.

    However this is a little different, they replaced the seal in or on the unit, now it is knackered. A little suspect, there is a good chance that they damaged it in some way.

    Proving that is another matter.

    The new unit is more than £1000 so I asked if it is possible to replace the seal ring to fix the problem. They are Mercedes specialist but they never suggest me not to do this or mention any possible problem may occur. And now the problem is not fixed, and they blame me because I insist to fix the seal ring instead of replacing the whole unit. and this is ridiculous!.
