Marketing company "Yellow Jellee" ripped me off

  • I have spoken to my solicitor and he has stated that not having anything in writing isn't really the issue as such its more the fact that she did complete the work, its not as relevant that she didn't do it properly or completed it on time because I agreed to pay her to do a task if she did the work be it that it was shoddy or whatever this can be difficult to prove, as Savvy Sue pointed out she could come back with any number of excuses or responses. Therefore I could take action but it will be a big risk and I could end up paying for her legal fees.
I have learnt from this I can tell you. Thank you to everyone for your advice. I advise everyone looking for a marketing company to use one with lots of history and testimonials and ask to see their completed projects not just go on a recommendation or believe what you are promised and told.
  • You'll learn from your mistakes, you probably needed to manage the situation better, setting up delivery points, regular meetings and having clear outlines of your expectations. Letting a project run for 3 weeks before you realised it was 'shoody' seems like you might not have checked in on her too much?

I'm working on a contract at the moment, the client I'm working with emails me everyday and I'll email him any questions. We then Skype (he's based in US) around 5pm UK time everyday to review progress and talk about expectations and delivery points. He absolutely loves the work I'm doing and so do I.

It's a shame you've experienced a cowboy but I wouldn't say word of mouth is a bad thing, most of my work comes from it, you just needed to establish some clearer ground rules initially and keep an eye on how things are running.
