Hi ginger dad, I didn't pay in advance I paid her weekly by standing order but because I agreed to pay her verbally and she did the work, (be it late and to a very poor standard) I paid her. Also she was recommended by a mutual friend so it was bit awkward really. Whats annoying is that I have now had to spend additional money and my time re-doing her !!!! ups. Very annoying. It looks like I have no come back as its her word against mime.
Thanks for the information JohnyBright, very interesting.0 -
You need to be very careful about what you post on online forums - especially those posters who are alledging some very serious things about this woman. Why anyone would spend £6400 without a proper written contract is beyond me, but some of these posts are very slanderous.0

There's a couple of people here who might be getting solicitor's letters in the near future unless this thread disappears sharpish. Just a thought.0

On a side note why would you spend that much on a site when they can be created for next to nothing ??? , I can get pay for a decent site to be fully up and running from as little as a few hundred pound.0

In order for something to be deemed slanderous it has to be proved to untrue......or have I missed something?0 -

The OP has no proof of what they are saying and no contract. The poster JohnyBright... makes serious allegations of theft, incompetence and dishonesty against the individual whose name was visible for quite a while in the opening post - and will still be visible in a cached version of the page - and, again, without proof. In particular, they state"I have it on good authority that she was too busy using company time and money by sneaking personal expenses for her husbands maintenance business by ordering and buying embroidered work shirts and business cards which she then had invoiced to the company."
This is an extremely serious allegation.0 -

Slander and defamation are only such when what you have said is untrue and I can wholeheartedly say that what I have stated on my post about the owner of Yellow Jellee is 100% true, not only this but if I was challenged I would be able to prove that what I have stated about her is true because I can produce written documentation, emails and letters to prove that this individual did infact do what I have stated. My post should not be removed as it protects people like Caspar from being ripped off, all be it that Caspar appears to have been naive.0 -
I did some design work for this company last year. I designed some banners for her website and stupidly I didn't get anything in writing from her about what she was going to pay me- I just took her word. She just told me to do the work and let her know what I though I should charge. I spent several hours doing different website banners for her which she then used for her website. I asked my dad what he thought I should charge her and he said that as I am fairly experienced I should charge the mid rate so I charged her £150 in total- which he thought was cheap considering a web development company would have charged £400 or more. However she the owner refused to pay me for the work I did.
She asked me to create banners containing various famous logs like McDonald's, I queried this because you need permission to use these logs but she said it was fine and to use them anyway, then I found out through a mutual friend that the companies/brands discovered she had used their logos without permission and wrote to her to get them removed.0 -
Why did you not review the work, i would ask to see something at the end of each week at a minimum? You paid her for 3 weeks without checking? Even in a non contract situation you establish delivery points and expectations verbally so both client and vendor are happy.0
