Hi I am after some advice. Last month I hired a marketing company called Yellow Jellee https://www.yellowjellee.co.uk. After speaking to the owner [TEXT REMOVED BY FORUM TEAM] I was impressed with her experience so hired her to do my website on a daily rate of £400 over 16 days.
To cut a long story short she basically didn't deliver anything on time, and the work she did I had to re-do myself. The wording she used on my website was very "Mickey Mouse" so in the end I terminated her contract because she wasn't delivering what she had agreed. I don't have anything in writing and I'm annoyed that I have spent £6400 on nothing.
Where do I stand legally can I take her to the small claims court to get my money back?
On her website she states she has a "team" of people who can be my external marketing team, but it was all very amateur and was just her the whole time.

I would seek legal advice rather than discussing your alleged problems with a named supplier in detail on a public forum.

She has not registered her website as a business which apart from being a big no no is not very reassuring that they know much about commercial websites.

No address details on the website which is not good.

I personally like how she has not set up her links to her linkedin and twitter as proper links and instead relies on the user to copy and paste them.

It looks as if she should concentrate on her site first which is just a template with minimum text and some dud links.

The link you have posted goes to one of these - hoy-es.co.uk .

[TEXT REMOVED BY FORUM TEAM] must be more convincing to speak to than the impression given by the site.

    The website is appalling!

Poor choice of colour and very difficult to read.

  • Do you think I have any legal case against this company? I'm not sure if she has done the work I may not have a case against her be it that the work was poor and not delivered on time.

Given that you have nothing in writing, how are you going to provide evidence that the work was poor and not delivered on time? I can imagine many possible responses: caspar did not provide the information I needed in a timely fashion, caspar kept changing his mind about what he wanted, caspar was unclear about deadlines.

If you want to take legal action, you need evidence ... and paid for legal advice.

  • Hi Savvy Sue, I didn't get anything in writing because I knew of her through a friend of a friend whereby my friend worked with her in a previous company which I had also had dealings with before and their marketing always seemed quite good. Also he recommended her to me so I stupidly went on his recommendation and because she said she had such a lot of experience. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Its not a matter of "hindsight" - you've no written contract so how are you going to prove she didnt deliver?

  • I used to work with the owner Yellow Jellee - she used to be the marketing manager at my old company and im sorry to say she was not well liked or regarded by many of her collegues. She completely ballsed up the company SEO so badly that the company website fell off the google searches completely and got reprimanded and removed by Google because of the use of bad and illegal back links to the site. This cost the sales team hundreds of leads and cost the company hundreds of thousands of £££ in lost business. Worst still it was her boss who noticed it not her and by the time it was noticed it was too late because she had her eye off the ball.
I have it on good authority that she was too busy using company time and money by sneaking personal expenses for her husbands maintenance business by ordering and buying embroidered work shirts and business cards which she then had invoiced to the company.
Not only are her marketing skills as useful as an ash tray on a motorbike, in my opinion she is also dishonest.
Her linked in profile is grossly exaggerated and she takes the credit for many accomplishments that she either had nothing to do with or other staff actually did not her.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Caspar but I don't think you will see a penny back from this one.
