Accidental bank transfer to EE

I accidentally paid £100 into an old EE account by online transfer last night - I should have clicked on the account above to another current account so should still have the money and need it to live off.

I phoned my bank and they said phone EE as the money has gone through and it may be in a holding account.

This is where the problem got worse - I have home broadband with EE but it is a separate section so they can't help. I can't get through to anyone in the mobile section because when phoning they require an EE mobile number so that you can get through the initial push button bit - there are no other options!

So how does an ex-customer get through and get this sorted asap? I have also emailed customer services but presume that will take too long as well. I need the money for food and transport and will run out if I don't get it back by Tuesday at the latest. If anyone from EE sees this then please let me know which number to call? There is nothing but the 150 number on the website or a sales number, and they couldn't help/left me hanging and the line went dead.

Forget about Tuesday. Your chances of getting this sorted that fast are next to zero. Think about ways of borrowing money if your really are desperate.

Probably best to write to them, they are going to need an address to post the cheque to once processed.

My bank said if it goes into a holding account, which it should if I no longer have an account with EE for mobile phone, then it automatically gets transferred after 72 hours. I'm not so sure either that I'll get it back soon.

I've never done this before but am under a lot of stress and did this - so stupid.

Even if an account is closed, you can still make a payment on it. Phone customer service and ask. Just ignore the options when they ask for your number, or put the old one in, eventually you will get transferred.

If you quote your old account number (which should be on your bank account as the reference if it was something you used previously) they should be able to pull up the details. If the payment has gone straight to that, customer service should see it and they just need to send a refund request, as paid in error, to the billing team.

Seriously, it's a brick wall. There is no way through either leaving out the number or putting old one in. It's dreadful..i get so upset each time i try. I got through to sales team twice but they couldn't get me through either. :-(

On the phone to them again. They've taken all the numbers and said a bill payment would not normally say just 'EE' as it does on mine. I have given them an account number and sort code that it has gone to and they say £100 has not been paid in. He has now gone to speak to his manager but the line seems to have gone dead again.

The customer service is truly shocking.

They have said my bank should be able to get it back so I am on the phone to them.

Getting so fed up of this. They said do an indemnity claim but I doubt it is possible - that is for DDs. I don't know what to do if it doesn't get sorted. I will have to get a payday loan.

Ring 0800 956 6060 and ask them to email the "Accounts Receivable" team. They will trace the payment and send it back to you.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

M& S (my current acct) said EE should be able to see it as it has gone to them, clearly. She said they are giving me the wrong information.

They might be able to raise a dispute. She is going to call me on Monday as nothing more can be done until then -she said they will be able to find it but probably the people I have spoken to don't know. I am going to phone their complaints department.
