As previously posted Safesearch is a browser hijacker.
Malwarebytes and ADW Cleaner can have had mixed results in removing it but Zemana Anti Malware has successfully done so on my machine, and automatically reset the homepage.
Although I am using the beta release I have no reason to believe that the same result wouldn't be achieved with the current public release.
Although this software is paid-for you can get a 15-day free trial.
And, as mentioned by Yolina in post#5, think about installing Unchecky so you reduce the possibility of downloading c**pware in future.0 -
Thanks Gillor I will keep that in mind but will unchecky do the same job or is it too late for that.0

Just done a recap on where it all began and just might help others.
I had just read an article about doing something on CCleaner and when I went on site it said there was a new version available. O.K. click on NV and then taken to Piriform W/site offering an upgrade (not free) with a choice of Yes/No thanks. Click no thanks.
New Piriform page shows up with 3 options where I select the free one. But just notice update are manual not auto.
Now we are shown the door and taken to Filehippo web page where there are 3 download options I am sure I clicked the right one-Download latest version 15-11- and thats where it all went wrong. I remember the next page said something like it is now downloading but while you are waiting read this which explained ccleaner. But it wasn't downloading and I pressed something else and then became aware it wasn't CCleaner
I abhorted the rouge programme but I must have been slow in doing it and now I am paying for it.
I hope this makes sense and helps others. I can now see the sense of Unchecky. Too Late, Too Late was the cry!0 -
Its nothing too major so don't worry about it:idea:0

Agreed… there are far more serious “infections.” But browser hijackers like this can certainly be a PITA by redirecting searches to potentially harmful sites or at least those of questionable content, so it’s certainly worth getting rid of.0
