    Is Saveserver safe?

Well I can't categorically say it is not safe, but my experience with things of this nature tells me not to trust it

Why do you want it ? Where are you getting it from ? The lack of responses saying Yes it is safe tells me a lot, oh and firefox is a browser not a search engine, google is. It looks like your browser has been hijacked

I agree with you Alien and in answer to debitcard i dont want it, it appeared after I had attempted to update CCleaner. I got rid of it but wondered if it was safe to use anyway. I am getting browser & search engine mixed up, pardon me, Firefox is doing the searching at the moment but I would rather have Google and while I can get google easy I can't make it my default S.E.
    Hijacked! now I am worried!

The Plot thickens! did what you told me debitcard but put it firefox search and all the answers come from Google so I thought I would put it in firefox address bar and nothing came up. Can you advice what choice i take in the Google selection?
  • copy it using your mouse and paste it into the firefox address bar or goto Tools/Options then search on the left of the screen

No luck with both suggestions but what I have discovered is Safesearch is a Google.com search engine and I think they probably did the hijacking you mentioned. Thanks debitcard I will carry on but dont want to waste your time.
I can click on google when I want it until I find the default setting!

I have now found out I have been hijacked by Safeserver thanks to Piriform directing me to Filehippo just to update their CCleaner product.

    Your browser has been hijacked.
You most likely now have malware too .

Safesearch is just a search engine like google, but it wont show you "normal" search results - but rather results that the creator of safesearch has a vested interest in promoting ie are paid to do so.

The underhand thechiques they use to get on your system should speak volumes to you.

Remove it using malwarebytes free from here https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/ (be sure to untick the option for free trial of pro version.

Set your homepage back to google in firefox by going to options and startpage.
Sert it back to google in internet explorer by going to internet options, and changing the value for "homepage"

Thanks Andy for that information and advice it seems it is more of a nuisance than a danger but I better get rid.
I have been looking at some advice from Mallware Tips website which is similar to your advice but they suggest using AWD cleaner and then Malwarebites but it gets tricky here because i have to start backing up and replace the short cuts to the desk top. I am not that comp geek so a bit apprenesive when it comes down to this. I would appreciate your views on this.
