So did mine but only because I refused to contribute as I felt it was their job as my parents. I had a terrible attitude and when I left home had no money management skills and ended up in debt!! The only person to blame is ME!! So make sure you don't end up clueless about money like I did.
    My point exactly.

I was the eldest so no spare money for me when growing up.
I had to save for anything I wanted. Sewed my own clothes.

My youngest sister (youngest by a long way) had pretty much everything she wanted, paid no board.

I always lived within my means, am debt-free and retired early.
My sister has only just had her financial light-bulb moment.

    We're in very different places.
  • BT is no longer free - they charge for it now after the initial year
    olympic challenge starting 7/1/07:j
  • If you watching BT Sport is stopping her from seeking out a better BB deal then you should contribute. Many, many years ago we didn't have a phone (I know it sounds crazy now but it was the 1970's) and my dad refused to have one installed, so my brother and I arranged it and we shared the bill 50/50. Sometimes you just have to do the right thing.

I never quite understand these posts as they really have only one answer and that is if your moral compass is correctly placed.

Next week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks...

My grandparents have £50.000 in cash under the kitchen sink in a biscuit tin and I am wondering if it is okay to help myself as they clearly have no need for it.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: If I thought they wouldn't notice it, I would half inch a few 20 pound notes.

I'm not sure if these 'dilemmas' are intended to generate discussion or to actually get advice.

If i really is to get advice, can I ask MSE whoever to include more details.
Such as the financial situation of the person - is he paying board?
If he is - how much?
What percentage of his wages is the amount of board he pays?
How comfortable financially is his Mum?

What Polly says ^^^ If said person is paying board money, (as most people over 18/19 would be doing, and at a set amount probably...) then he doesn't need to give her anything extra.

If she decides to have internet for £55 a month or £10; that's up to her. The OP should (I would imagine,) be paying a set amount of board money, so why should they pay towards the internet?

Sorry, but it's an odd question.

    I am sure that's a bit racist. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

  • Of course you should!
  • Your mum has paid out a great deal of money over the years to bring you up. Now is the time to her show your gratitude by giving something back.
  • You should at least offer and then it would be down to her whether she wants to accept.
  • Absolutely - if you use part of the package you should contribute to the bill.

More than "a bit" and the forum team have now seen fit to remove it, so probably best that you remove the quote.

  • No: You shouldn't pay towards it. You should move out, pay market rate for rent, then pick your own broadband to pay for.

Or.. accept you're probably getting a sweet deal leaching of your mother and pay towards it - you adult-shaped child.
