    Good evening everyone :hello:

Sue - so glad you're feeling better.

Helen - your break sounds as though it was exactly what you needed. x

A variety of silver coins have been potted, following a day of shopping. Great day with a friend.

£1.65 for my pot. Happy Wednesday everyone :)
    SPC 19 - #009
  • Hello everyone! I've been silent for a while, had a lot going on so I've been silently potting any change I could get my hands on.

    Potted £4 this morning.

Opinion needed please: My partner has been asking me why I pot money instead of putting it in a savings account, because a paltry interest rate is better than no interest at all...what are your thoughts please?

    Have a great day.
    Whatever it takes.

We occasionally have new members join who ask exactly the same question adn I always reply the same way :)

    1) some people cannot save in a bank as its so much easier to go to a hole in the wall and just take out £10 - £20 which you fully intend to replace but never do, with a sealed pot you actually have to break into it meaning you'll only do it if your desperate for the money.

    2) Theres also people like me, I have no problem with savings accounts, I have one I pay into every month as well, I just love (and I mean LOVE!) count up day. Its my most exciting day of the year, I love opening my tins with my DH, sorting all the coins into their denominations and bagging it all up. I'm also very competitive so each year is a competition to save more than last year.

and 3) There are those that need the motivation to save anything, by coming on here and telling everyone else about how they found 50p at the self service or how they didn't buy that chocolate bar but potted the money instead, it keeps them focused on their savings goal (and sometimes weight loss/no smoking goal).

This challenge is primarily about saving money you would otherwise have wasted on frivolous things, so it never would have been in a savings account anyway. Some of us take it further than that, saving as much as we can, some also do chuck their pot money in the bank at regular intervals. That is the nice thing about this challenge, you make it fit your savings style.

So tell your OH, you save in a tin because that is what works for you :) £50 in a tin with no interest is better than a bank account with nothing in it but IOU's ;)

    Hellooooooooooo Potterssssssssssssssssss

Went to bingo with my mum yesterday as they sent us vouchers for a free game :D We won nowt :rotfl: but while I was sorting myself out she is watching the ladies play the slots and said 'but how does it work? I don't understand them, show me!'
So I take her £1 and chuck it in the machine to show her how to play and win her £9 :rotfl: she's still none the wiser about all the flashy lights but was happy with her win and gave me £4 of it :j so in my tin its gone :D

(REMEMBER PEOPLE! do NOT gamble any money you can not afford to lose! We are a money saving site!)

Spent today making DD a bag, was supposed to be making 3 rucksacks but she was moaning about having a bag from the truck material I bought so thats what I made ^^. Amazingly, despite not interfacing it, ironing or even measuring it, I managed to make it the exact size to fit her ipad :rotfl: I am truly amazing :D:D:D

Hello there all SPCers, and a very happy Wednesday to you!

You got mugged by the tooth fairy, f0xh0les?!!!! Next time, stick the tooth back in the gap until the blighter's flown away! :rotfl: No, I'm not serious and I do know how costly these little ones (fairies too) can be. Still, at least you still managed to save. :D
I have potted this weekend. 2 x £2 and 5 x 50p. would have liked a bit more but not had alot of spare this week.

Don't worry, 12 month challenge, you saved a really good amount, enough to be proud of; yes, we'd all love to be saving more, but...! ;)

Hi there, Modesty, lovely to see you and thanks for the wishes. Some good savings, well done....

...you too, TheDapster, and good to see you!

You might have overdone it a bit with the gardening at the weekend, siju, but I bet it's been great therapy for the mind in seeing it look so good now. :)

And then I remembered I'm going to London on Saturday ..... :o Also potted 2 x £2s tonight as well so #066 £166.00

(twice edited because apparently £114.00 + £50 was £154 yesterday instead of £164  )

Don't worry, MrsShazbat, we all get moments like yours...we just don't always admit them! ;) Excellent work with the £50 in the pot rather than spent, and have a wonderful time in London on Saturday.

Hi Helen! Sounds as though you thoroughly enjoyed your break in Cornwall, it's such a beautiful county with so much to adore, so you do your very best to get back down there in June and love spending time with the family! It'll also give you something to really look forward to! :j Great saving and I hope you've also really enjoyed yourself with your friend today. :D

I also love Fistral beach and all around Newquay, mrs-moneypenny. Good potting.

I quite see your poing, Hicksy, but I'll bet you all had a fantastic time together. So, your little darling's a year old now!!!! By eck, it goes quick!

    Good potting for you, Chutney!

Thanks a lot, Vicky. :) It sounds as though you also have had a great time, well done, with the saving too!

Very good saving, NeedToBeDebtFree! Jakes-mum has answered your query wonderfully, and as you can see, it really is up to you. So, if you'd sooner save it up for a short time then bank your savings then do so with our blessing, just be sure to pop the amount banked on your signature each time so you don't forget to declare it n the 3rd November. Mainly though..you're saving we all are :D, and so many of us have NEVER saved before, because as jakes-mum has said, the cash has always been to easy to be withdrawn!! Whatever you do, be happy and be proud that you're saving that cash for such times as it'll really do you good. :grinheart

An excellent post, jakes-mum, and soooo very worthy of a gold star for certain! :staradmin Thank you so much for explaining it all so perfectly, you did a terrific job and I particularly love your last paragraph! Very well done to you and your Mum n the £9 win, but again, you've made a great job of popping that warning on! :T :kisses3:

Many thanks for the get well wishes, everyone, they're very much appreciated, but I'm ok now, honest. BTW, I forgot to say how much I'd saved last time. During the last couple of weeks I saved a total of £25.34!!! :j Very chuffed indeed. :D Take care all and {{{Hugs}}} to anyone that needs them, get well soon.
Enjoy the rest of Wednesday, Potters, Thursday too. :DKeep potting as much as possible!
