How much data does installing iOS 9 on iPhone use?

How much depends on your plan: if you're on a SIM Only plan with All-you-can-eat data, you can use up to 8GB as a Personal Hotspot (unless you're on our SIM Only plan with All-you-can-eat data and 200 minutes, in which case you'll be able to use up to 4GB). If you're on a 24-month package with All-you-can-eat data, you can use up to 12GB a month as a Personal Hotspot"

So your tethering allowance could be 4, 8 or 12GB. Login to 3 app and Check under Allowances

All iphones have wifi capability.

So when I flick wifi to On, it searches for available networks, but without being in range of one it won't connect via wifi. I'm confused.

My tethering allowance is 4GB, I've only used it once when BT decided I was close to my limit for the month. Perhaps I need to read up on all this, it's doing my head in!

Oh, so I could use the hotspot function on one phone to upgrade the iOS on the other one? Makes you wonder why the phone itself can't be its own hotspot. How very weird :rotfl: .

Depending on your file size you may have to download the software update over a Wi-Fi connection.

I'm using the Public Beta version of iOS 9.2 on my 6s Plus and the update released yesterday is 1.6GB in download size.

Underneath it tells me I've got to connect to Wi-Fi to proceed with the newer version.
