  • Also I think I would be having a word with your landlord about the possibility of another tenant tapping into your supply. He will be concerned about his property enough to get a private electrician round to rule it out. I would be seriously concerned if it was my property.Give the insurance companies any chance of getting away with a pay-out and they will take it. These cannabis growers are unbelievably stupid when it comes to electricity and wiring. I ve even seen 6 inch nails hammered through cables to tap off

Thats are scary thought! Well Vicky called me monday and apolgised for sending the wrong person out, took all my details and was very understanding of the problem, and is arranging another visit, but still as of yet I dont have an appointment date.

Find it very stressful as I can see this bill rising every day with no end in sight.
Early I switched off the mains in my flat for 2 hours and it with still flashing usage like crazy.

*Phoned them and a meter test has been booked for the 30th of November*
19 more days of waiting :(
  • So I did abit of searching on the web and came across multiple instances of this being a common fault on digital meters made by Ampy and manufactured between 2007/2008, with one engineer reporting they all eventualy get this fault.

And no shock mine was made by Ampy in 2007.
Coincidence maybe but enough to put my mind at ease. Useful information for others too.

I cant imagine that they would object to back-dating your usage charges to at least the time you informed them of the fault. It isn't your fault the meter is misreporting your usage.

Ask them to do this and start a written complaint if they object.
  • Its very common for the little white Ampy meters to go wrong but its normally when they have just gone blank. . Even lighting nearby can knock them out. .Its news to me that its common for them to just run haywire and start flashing away adding many units..normally they just lose all the reading for good.
  • The meter fitter said in his experience it was common for them to start recording additional units before eventually fading then going blank, perhaps most people dont notice a problem till it goes blank and then the extra usage before it goes unnoticed?

Thats a possibility.Nearly all of the many hundreds of people who I ve seen with blank screens on the Ampy did nt even know the meter was blank . Once the meter is blank the reading go s for good.
  • So after a long wait for the meter to be tested, I get a phonecall today to say they wont be turning up as someone has rang in sick and they dont have the equiptment to do it...
now once again waiting to be contacted with a new date..

Have you been inconvenienced? Taken time off work or cancelled plans? As for compensation again.

    Keep hounding them!

Yes, no shows like that usually collect around £25 compo from the suppliers. You have had to take time off work.
