Are many earning £40,000 in Michelin? Gallagher was famous for good wages, which may explain its demise?

Probably more like mid 30s. Maybe shift allowances add a bit to it.

    Gallagher sounds like another level.

Did no one suggest keeping gallaghers going at lower pay? If the stories are true, £25,000 for driving a forklift seems a lot in the modern world.

I was shown around the factory a few years ago and the guy told us what they earned on the production line. It is a lot higher than the minimum wage but definitely a lot lower than the mid 30's. take £10k off that and you would be closer.

Gallaghers is great money, I know an ordinary operator, working 3 x 12 hour night shifts per week = 36hrs, no Saturday nights and his gross wage is £34k. Michelin about 10k less for more hours
I started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p

Yes, no doubt that last point will be uppermost in the employees' minds, and it's clear that their (understandable) reduction in spending will hurt the local economy.

I'm pleased that you, your wife and son are doing well. However, there's no getting away from the fact that private sector salaries are well below public sector salaries in NI.

With the public sector (which typically employs a large number of graduates) shrinking, and the loss of many well-paid private sector jobs recently, this doesn't bode well for the economy at all.

Oh you really are a "glass is half empty" kind of gal arent you?

Comparing salaries only is foolish. I have recently been working in places such as Woking, Hatfield and Slough. Rents there are an easy £1000-1200 a month for a small two bed apartment anywhere you'd want to live. If you were to commute into the city, you'd be looking at maybe £400-500 in train and tube expenses. IF you were thinking of buying a house, a semi detached for example in Slough, you could expect to pay around £500,000.

One lady i worked with was on the high £20's of a wage in Slough, and i know for a fact that the equivalent job in belfast would attract a salary of £25K.

The "top 100" list you link to is selected by John Simpson. I wouldn't say it's a factual list. Still it's interesting.

Invest NI aren't really fans of publishing average salary of their jobs promoted. I know in previous years, the majority if jobs promoted were based in "contact centers" and the majority of these were below the NI Industry average.

Last year, the average salary for all Invest promoted jobs was 19.5k.

Call center jobs are on the whole pretty poorly paid but as with everything, there's potential there for the few who can add a bit of value.

Starting salary in a call centre these days is around £12.8K. Thats inbound customer service type roles. If you're half inclined towards sales, you could earn £15K to £18K OTE. The targets are hardly stretching.

Thats a pretty good wage for someone just out of school i would have thought OR for someone with no previous skills. 6 months on the phones and you've a good chance of getting into a trainer role, quality, maybe IT, or team management.

£30K should be easily achieveable within 5 years if you're good at what you do. Like any job, you get out of it what you put in.

Senior Management positions command very strong salaries, and are in line with Senior Management roles in other industries.

Thats your standard outsourcing call centre. A bit of experience in there should get you into somewhere like Prudentional, HBOS or Santander. Again, all of these companies heavily encourage promotion from within into other aspects of their business.
