Buttons are better. That's why I prefer Levi's as many styles (and not just jeans) have buttons instead of zips.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

Re: the year-old issue of M&S trousers with short zips.
At the weekend I bought (and am wearing) a pair of M&S trousers with just this problem of which I was unaware until I 'felt the need'. The zip is indeed about an inch short. I will return them asap.

If MSEers are buying casual clothing (with inadequate zipperage) from M&S, I would definitely recommend having a look at Sainsbury's. JS is a fair bit cheaper (40%?), like-for-like, than M&S, and they have regular "season change" sales, where everything is 25% off. (Not "up to", not "selected ranges", but everything, including shoes).

Asda is good for basics (and 50% cheaper than M&S). Asda also has a 100 day money back guarantee.

And they will soon be having one of their "double your money" promotions on Nectar points which usually includes clothing in the offer.

I think zips are the least of M&S's quality control problems.

Far more annoying is that they can't standardise their sizing, even within the same range. Last week I bought two pairs of trousers from the same range, allegedly the same size, but one fitted, the other didn't. When I compared them, both the leg length and waist were different. I can just about accept slight differences between different ranges, but any good firm should be making sure that sizing is the same within each range.

Same with men's shirts - it's a lottery as to what size to buy as body/arm length and collars can be very different. I've started to buy 2 or 3 different sizes with the sole aim of taking 2 back and just keeping the one that's closest fit. Shouldn't have to do that with a supposedly reputable retailer!

Since Sainsbury's cut in half the Nectar points awarded per pound spent to only 0.5 pence this effectively just takes you back to the old rate, they would need to "quadruple your money" to be the equivalent of the old "double your money".
  • Can't you just pull your trousers down? or does that reveal too much? your pants would still be in place to save your modesty. I don't really understand urinal etiquette.

I suspect some of the gents are insinuating that their personal anatomy requires a much larger opening than M&S allows for.

Or it could be that their waistband is so high that they need extra length to reach down into and scrabble around.

    Kilts have no such issue...
I need to think of something new here...
