Latop Very slow... Help!!

I have just done a system restore because I lost my wireless connection. That now seems to work fine.

Everything now seems to take ages to load up. Is there any diagnostic check I can run to carry out an automatic fix please?

I hope I've supplied enough information Thanks

  • I'd start by installing and running CC Cleaner, to tidy up the Registry, and delete any unnecessary files.

When you say "system restore", do you mean a rollback, or a factory reset"?

    Also, which OS?

There is no program that will 'auto fix' everything for you. I wouldn't even recommend anything that might 'part' fix it for you as I have never had any good experiences with such programs

    Open CCLEANER
    Goto TOOLS and START UP
Then click SAVE TO TEXT FILE (Bottom right)
Post the contents of that text file here to give us some idea of whats being loaded at startup

  • It could help to know make and model too.

How much RAM does your laptop have? If it's 64-bit Windows 7 then a machine with 2GB is noticeably slower than one with 4GB, and a machine with 1GB is almost unusable.

32-bit Windows 7 may be quicker as it's less RAM-hungry (a Dell Optiplex 755 with 2GB RAM running 32-bit Vista Business isn't too bad).

I have tried to copy and paste the info requested from Ccleaner but it was blocked by mse. I emailed them and they got back to me yesterday about 1700 and asked if they can help by posting it so I sent them the info by email. Clearly it hasn't been passed on yet :-(

Make and exact model would be helpful.

Do the fans run all the time even when idle ?
