If you are in England or Wales, you need the Access to Neighbouring Land Act 1952...

....or maybe a potted version first!

Many thanks for that - interesting.
However, if you knew my neighbour, there is no way on the planet you would want to do anything that indirectly helps her.
Being bloody minded I suppose, but NO WAY would I clean her gutters even if it helps us.
Very long story, but I'm sure you guy's would understand. Doubt you'd want about 5 pages to explain though.....;)Happiness, is a Kebab called Doner.....:heart2::heart2:0 -
When it rains, the water has nowhere to go except overflow into our garden. What makes it worse, is it overflows above our back door to the point where the door is unusable when it rains - it's like a blasted waterfall!!However, if you knew my neighbour, there is no way on the planet you would want to do anything that indirectly helps her.

You'd put up with not being able to use your door when it rains (and possibly cause damp in your house if the water is running down the walls) rather than do something about the gutter?0 -
The trouble might be that she's a bit clueless as to how to find somebody to do the work - and how much they might charge her....I know mine needs doing (here in fact, just checking you weren't my neighbour complaining about it, but you're not) ..... maybe a little help with "finding the right little man, that's affordable" wouldn't go amiss.
I enquired on MSE how much it might be and they said £100.
£100???? Blimey..... that's more money than a lot of single people have left/month after the roof's put over their head and very basic/frugal bills are paid .... and before they eat.0 -

Oh she's not clueless by any means. She's also quite wealthy.
It's bloody mindedness pure and simple. She hates everyone that lives here, will co-operate with no-one and moans and bleats about anything and everything - she's a sheer delight......:DHappiness, is a Kebab called Doner.....:heart2::heart2:0 -
It's difficult to influence the mental state of neighbours, and even harder sometimes to stand back and view a problem like this dispassionately.
I'd explore the insurance co route first, putting the matter in the hands of a third party to remove the personal element here. Neither of you wants a dispute, especially if selling the house is anywhere on the horizon.
However, if forcing her to act via your insurers is not possible for any reason, wait until she goes out, clear the gutter and then deny any knowledge of it. Doing it without her consent might make you feel better.
Even if you were caught in the act, it puts the ball in her court, and trespass is a civil offence with very little risk indeed of successful prosecution.0 -
Or see if you can reach it from a bedroom window if you know she is out and accidently damage her section so it needs to be repaired, Long pole out of window several prods onto plastic guttering will solve this, If it is metal then get a gutter clearing tool and push it back as far as possible.0

A terraced property will only have about 5/6 Mtr run at the front and the same to the rear. This cleaning should take no more than 20 minutes with a ladder, bucket & rubber gloves. The cost should be no more than £25. A window cleaner often offers this service. As for connecting an additional downpipe into a foul drain this is a no no.0

It is in your interest to get this resolved as soon as you can as the section of guttering that is overflowing on your house will lead damp problems in your property.
I would recommend would leave another polite note to say if she has no objections, you will remove the blockage in the guttering within the next x days. Then either sort it yourself or get a local trades person to do it.0 -
