Why is it when you buy a value Supermarket Kettle it works ok for 2-3 months then after that when you start to boil it goes so far then stops and restarts a few minutes later?

Because it's faulty. Take it back.

It's still under warranty so take it back.

Cheap products don't always last long....but for £5 you could replace it every year and it's still cheaper than a £30 kettle that you replace every 5 years or so.

Thank you - I will - but why I ask is this is not the only case of this happening it has happened several times before with previous kettles and about the same time too

You get what you pay for.

Of course, you could always get one of these that can't possibly break because there's nothing in it to break :)

Okay it takes three times longer to boil but on the plus side, in a power cut one can often still have a cup of coffee :D

The whistling kettle as above looks like a good choice.

Don't let it boil dry though.

Assuming your home is fitted with a gas hob, or you own something like this.
