They also attract wasps like anything. So I think would be better kept in a large pot.
I'm stayng with my mum for a couple of days and I am so impressed with her, she's obviously taken a leaf out of HRH's book. She presented me with some delicious Christmas cake yesterday, when I asked where it came from she showed me.....I make 2 giant Christmas cakes every year (5-7 pounders) and she had carefully sealed and stashed away half of one last year as "otherwise your dad will end up eating it". This is frugal, even by her standards!

BBC2 21:00 14/12.15 BACK IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS
The original series "back in time for dinner" follows a family as they live and cook their way from the 30's to modern day
This is a Christmas special starting with the war years so I thought it might appeal to old schoolers who follow this board0 -
Carrying on with my homemade Christmas I have made some decorations from a tub of buttons I brought in a charity shop, pics on the blog along with glimpses of my twiggy/branch "Christmas tree"

My home-made Christmas sadly hasn't quite happened! My Mum became very ill & was rushed to hospital a few weeks back, spent nearly a month in there, necessitating almost-daily visits (a 50+ mile round trip) and is currently recuperating in a care home near us; finding a spare place anywhere in the county at this time of year took quite some doing! So it's been a bit of a roller-coaster & will be altogether a very scratched-together-at-the-last-minute Christmas, but I'm just very grateful that she's still with us; it really didn't look as if she would be at one point. And I'm very mindful of those for whom the outcome wasn't so good, and also of all the old folk in there who never got visitors, and have had to stay in there because there are no "care packages" to be had.
So although I regret having to put my plans on hold for yet another year, I'm very happy to be lucky enough to have all my family together & in one piece for Christmas, and wish every Christmas blessing, home-made or otherwise, to all of you!Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Sorry to hear that your Mum's been ill Thriftwizard and pleased to hear that she's recovering. I'm sure that you'll enjoy your Xmas just as much as if it had all been planned. It certainly shakes up your priorities doesn't it?
Wishing you and your family the very best for Xmas and the coming year. The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
