  • Yes Pixie it is easy. Took from the Things to do with mum book

    350g 12oz desiccated coconut
    350g 12oz icing sugar
400g 14 oz tin of condensed milk
    1/2 tsp pink food colouring

Pour the milk into a large bowl. Put icing through a sieve and into bowl.
Add the coconut and stir. Mixture will be stiff.
Once all mixed together line a loaf tin with clingfilm and spread half the mixture in the bottom of tin.
Add the colouring to the mixture left in the bowl. Spread the pink ontop of the white mixture and put in fridge overnight. Cut into slices when set.

Everyone Ive gave this to has loved it.

Loving the HM candle idea, will use up all my bits of wax , n have a go :j

I'm thinking now that you can colour the wax for candles with grated scraps of coloured crayons- using up those scraps!

How about doing some word art which is cheap and cheerful, you can download an app and use the free ones or my daughter paid about £1.50 and had access to a few more. She also got free to use silhouettes on line and made some, you can print them out yourself or go to somewhere like asda and print them there, get a cheap frame from a pound shop and you have a nice personal present for someone for only 2 or 3 pound depending on how you print it out.

Made the wreath for the door today.

I'm not really up on how to do this, so don't know if it's too early and it will all die...if so, will just have to re-do later if it looks a wreck.

The hoop bit I found on the beach last year...so that was free. Nipped to a friends garden to cut off a load of 'green' this afternoon...not sure what the plant is to be honest, but it looks nice so far. Will add a couple of other bits later on when I get the decs down from the loft.

For now it is hidden away as kitty may try to eat it and it may bee poisonous. ......this fact never stops her...she is partial to poinsettia so they are banned here....:o

Plan is to find outside tree sunday as according to a friend it will be teaming it down tomorrow.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
  • Thank you, Nellsnest :)
  • I also made a wreath for free using dogwood cuttings from a neighbours garden. I am thinking of adding some Holly and Ivy from the garden in a couple of weeks, not sure when wreaths are traditionally displayed so will keep an eye out for someone else to go first ;)

I'm making an indoor wreath with red shiny ribbon wrapped around a polystyrene ring. I've made crochet holly leaves and berries to pin on the top and felt poinsettias to sit around the bottom. I'll hang it with the same ribbon and loop it through a curtain ring (the sort you use on a pole) then the little metal loop that you hang the curtain through is at the top to hang on a nail.

Greyhound friend now has a sheepskin liner for her coat.... :j. ....and one for her greyhound collar that she hates as they are thick and stiff. It now has a snugly sheepskin liner too and according to her mum now doesn't mind wearing it.....:D....bless. She's ancient poor thing, but enjoyed the beach today even though the humans weren't so keen.

Re ouside tree...weather was pretty dire although did look a while for a big windfall branch. However, ended up in some clearance shop still selling black friday imitation trees for 1.99.....!!!. So got one of these, and will see how that looks as it will be easier. I did fancy a branch to be honest to look more natural...but hey_ho....for that price I will see what it looks like. May play around with it tomorrow to see if I need to go back to plan A, it's too early to put stuff up yet, but may have a practice. It's so windy where I live (the coast) that whatever I do will have to be able to withstand that.

Anyone know the cheapest place to buy cinamon sticks for HM decs this year?.

I think i'm all HM'd out for a few days now. The next job will be the fireplace dec, but have loads of dried flowers and pods from the summer, and masses of decs to do the garland.

just gone through my stash of homemade goodies for hampers for DD and DILs - ive got 3 different jams - 2 different chutneys - pickled eggs -pickled beetroot - and picalilli, and will do garlic infused olive oil and Nigellas spiced peaches on Christmas eve as they only keep a few weeks. now I must beg some of those wooden satsuma/clementine boxes to put it all in, on a bed of home-shredded waste paper! I really don't want to pay for a roll of cellophane - so am trying to think what to use instead - any ideas anyone? I thought of cling film but think it will be too thin and impossible to tart up with the ribbon and huge bows I have saved from bouquets.
I will also do some homemade Turkish Delight and Melting Moments mini biccies, but can make boxes for those.
