  • I have some Xmas bunting that I made last year and I will be making decorated biscuits with the grandsons to give as presents to neighbours and friends. DD is cooking Xmas dinner and I am in charge of puddings which doesn't sound like much but I have to make enough for 10+ people for three days. Last year I did Xmas pud, an ice cream Xmas pud, a pavlova, a Yule log and cappuccino mousses. Any other suggestions for interesting puddings gratefully received!
We also have a buffet on Xmas eve - MrsCD, would you be kind enough to post the recipe for blinis? Thanks

I have a new project now for the weekend.

Last week when sorting some of my 'stuff' out I found my old dog coat making stuff. I used to make my dogs coats.

Anyhow, my friend has a very old, and very lovely, rescue greyhound. I've text her saying I still have loads of kit left, and will make her a sheepskin liner and collar for her coat. They will possibly come saturday for a fitting.....:D.

She will love it, she loves being snugly.....:T.

I've worked out I can also make fur boot toppers for myself with the top of the sleeves . ( I used to buy old sheepskin coats from charity shops and turn them into dog coats etc.) I have a pair of brown boots and I no longer like the type of fur top the have, so will take that off and replace with the sheepskin......hey presto...a new pair of boots. :) .

This thread has got me being a bit more creative again. I had lost my way with doing/making things due to life just getting in the way...well all the boring stuff.

Last night I made a woolly hat with a patient and bobble for the top. It was lovely, and is now her mum's xmas gift.....:T.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
  • We've done a few 'semi-homemade Christmas's'. By that I mean we have agreed within our circle of friends who 'get it' that we will make presents for them. This is usually edible, chutneys/jams/candles/soaps etc. Not everyone understands, nor has the time, to make gifts for everyone.

Last year I wove some table runners from beautiful rovings of merino wool which I dyed myself for three friends. I also made needle felted panels on Christmas Cards, which could be detached from the card and hung on the Christmas tree. We've also done watercolours of our friends cats.

The more friends that see what you have made for others the more they want to 'play', too. I'm delighted to receive presents that a friend has put some serious time into rather than click 'buy it now' on Amazon...

You can buy blini mix made with special flour, but you can also make good alternative ones with pancake mix - just make a bit thicker mixture.
    1 cup plain flour
    a pinch of salt
    2 eggs
    1 cup milk

Mix flour, salt and eggs in a large bowl. Use a balloon whisk to incorporate as much air as possible. Gradually whisk in the milk until you have a thick batter. Leave to rest for a few minutes while you heat a frying pan with a small amount of oil. Veg/rapeseed oil is fine.
Drop teaspoons of mix into the pan, just like making American style pancakes (or drop scones). Cook until you see the mixture start to set then flip over with a palette knife and cook the other side.
Leave on kitchen paper until cool.
    Suitable for freezing.
Put whatever topping you like on top and enjoy.

  • I saw a simple but effective decoration in a local shop window today.
They had a display of jigsaw puzzles for sale and had put a twiggy branch in one side of the window with jigsaw puzzle pieces suspended from the branches by thread. It looked good. They hadn't painted the puzzle pieces but you could if you wanted to to make a colour themed display.
  • I have made our fruit cake, and all our Christmas cards. I will be making our CHristmas crackers, each will contain two Ferrer0 R0cher. I have also made giant "baubles" from last year's Christmas cards to suspend from the ceiling, and will be putting up home made bunting. :)

    I love this thread :)
  • I've made homemade felt bunting , fabric gift bags for table gifts.
Two fruit cakes made a couple of nights ago. Felt gift voucher holder.
Coconut ice will be made nearer the time.
