People do get old. They don't become parasites. That is offensive towards pensioners who have paid towards their pension their whole life. As we know pensions in payment now are paid by the tax payers of today. There is no big pot of money to pay pensions from. Today's tax payers pay the pensions of the elderly.

You're probably wasting your time explaining that.

Some people hate immigration so much they're happy to let an entire generation of young people be crippled by exorbitantly high taxes to pay for the age care bill for the elderly.

    4 Grandparents.

    2 Parents.

1 young worker paying for them all.

Anyone without an agenda can see that doesn't add up in the real world without imposing a crippling burden on the young.

It never fails to amaze me that some people are so selfish and dislike change so much they'd happily do that rather than hear another language spoken in their hometown.:(

the ratio of working to old will only determine the level of support the old will get.

If the workforce greatly outnumbers the old (like in say turkey) then the old will be given generous retirement terms (retire at 50-55 in turkey). If the old greatly outnumber the workforce then the opposite will be true with delayed retirement (age 70) and very poor pensions and old person services

so its probably not a question of demographics destroying economies its more a question of how generous you want retirement terms to be

less of your faux outrage and a little more numeracy and common sense.

'older' people are quite capable of working
'retirement' is a relative new innovation and still unknown in many parts of the world

the greatest obstacle to 'older' people working is lack of jobs in our current economic environment
if there was the requirement then more more 'older' people would work: we have long stopped being dependent upon physically demanding work.

4-2-1 doesn't measure the work out capability or the dependency ratio.

the issue is the quantity of goods and services produced compared to the quantity of goods and services required

there is clearly nothing wrong with china welcoming immigrants

there is nothing wrong with people wanting to go there if they are welcome and they can get a better life there than elsewhere

china is rapidly becoming an urban society and yes china has less need of manual labour
nuclear scientists, chip designers, machine tools production operatives maybe

So you want everyone to work till they die and forgo retirement.

Quite a price to pay just so you can have the luxury of not hearing the odd word or two spoken in a foreign language.

you do yourself no favours in posting nonsense

if china wants immigrants and immigrants want to go there then that's fine.

your inability to understand economics and finding an answer to everything as racism is become tedious as in precludes sensible debate

Coming from you that shows, how can I put this delicately, a lack of self-awareness.... ;)

almost funny from some-one quoting 4-2-1

but as I said, it prevents sensible debate
  • Re-posting for Clapton as he ignored it the first time and apparently still doesn't understand the 4-2-1 problem..

Lets illustrate this simple maths problem visually....

The 4 grandparents being supported by 1 worker....

The 2 parents also being supported by the same worker..

The 1 worker supporting 6 other people.

(No wonder he looks tired and stressed out)

The "specific problem of the people of the region" is that there's a great big huge whacking demographic problem in China that's going to cause chaos with the economy and political stability in the region for decades to come.

Is there something about that incredibly obvious concept you don't understand?

Wars have been fought for less....
