Hi Frugal Friday Friends,
Busy day today, some of it money saving, so here goes with the listypoo:
*No parking fees in town. Parked on outskirts & walked in.
*Just about stuck to grocery budget.
*Visited our favourite farm stall on the market- bought a big pumpkin, parsnips, 2 huge cauliflowers & sprouts for £4......& only 8 food miles.
*Free coffees, 'Guardian' & food mag at Waitrose plus ys crumpets - 29p.
*Bought Cat some big tins for a change. We've got so used to the convenience of the individual pouches that we hadn't really picked up on how much cheaper the tins can work out. Our furry horror has half his daily food as biscuits & half wet food, which is 2 pouches or half a tin. Bought 6 tins of Butchers 'Classic' for about £2.70. That's 12 days. Whiskas pouches on offer £3 for 12. That's 6 days. Anyway, Cat slurped his first meal of 'Classic' so fast, he nearly took the pattern off the plate. Result!
*Carved pumpkin. The innards made 8 portions of soup for the freezer, a bag of chunks frozen to use in a pasta sauce & I spiced & roasted the seeds.
,*Baked cake to use some of our apples.
*Cleaned house using minimal products.
*Saved kitchen rug from aftermath of Mr f's lunch disaster. He made toasted muffins topped with cheese & redcurrants jelly, then dropped the grill pan. There was a crash & I can't remember the last time I heard so many effs in one sentence!! We are both shocking drama queens. He emerged slarmed in cheesy gunk shouting that the rug was ruined, would never recover & would need binning. 20 mins later, rug is fine, de-gunked ONLY with my trusty spray bottle of dilute Stardrops' & a microfibre cloth. Money saving in action, Oh yes!
*Paid in 2 cheques.
*Posted eBay parcel.
*Really really really wanted the black 'Yankee Candle' for Hallowe'en. Patchouli fragrance. £19. When you have a car service on Mon, a tight month, Christmas to plan for, a myriad of jobs which need doing on the house.....& you find yourself trying to justify spending nearly £20 on a candle, it's kind of time to take a look at yourself. Compromised by buying little votive (same fragrance) to burn tomorrow night.
And thus my virtue was restored.
Love to all,

Evening all

I'm checking in from ds football training on my iPad so not sure whether I can do the formatting etc on here. Apologies if I miss or forget something.
Happy birthday Dawn - hope you've enjoyed it in spite of the weather.
CLF - pleased yesterday was ok. I am embarrassingly emotional and cry very easily. Only ever been to 2 funerals but I was a wreck at both. I wouldn't have been able to speak...
Busy day and I'm quite tired now.crazy_cat_lady wrote: »
Today's list
[STRIKE] check banking and PAD :j[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Take the kids pumpkin carving [/STRIKE]
[STRIKE] load of washing in but we too are bucketing with rain today [/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]check all of my free lottery stuff[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]take coin jar to bank and use it to PAD to my emergency fund[/STRIKE] PAD not done yet, but coins were banked so I'll do that once I'm home. The start of my emergency fund.
[STRIKE]pay for everything in cash - I'm using envelopes as well as YNAB this month[/STRIKE] I spent a shocking amount of money today
[STRIKE]get dh to the doctors this afternoon[/STRIKE]
I took £100 out of the bank to cover our day out, fuel and shopping. First stop was to post a parcel - by the time I got to the post office in the pouring rain I discovered that I had a hole in my boot.
:( Bought a new pair of boots at Mr S in their 25% off while we did the shopping. Lunch cost less than I thought because I moaned about how much stuff was missing from the menu so we got starters and kids desserts free. :money::money:
Even better than that I got home to find DH had been in the bath and had a shave. I still had to escort him to the doctors but small steps...Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

Jonno - Glad you are enjoying my blog. Re. your garden envy, if it makes you feel better, our house still needs a ton of work & we haven't even got central heating.

Hi everyone
Wow - so much to catch up on
Yeah Jonno - it's the new website layout - I don't think you can do smilies in the title (or see them). Bit annoying tbh!
Carrie - big hugs being sent to you :grouphug:
Happy birthday Dawn!
We're off to try out the local pub tonight - not been to any since we moved here. We're having dinner at home first so we're not tempted by the pub meals!
Today I put a cheque in the bank
Packed lunch went down a treat - nom nom
Got fake nespresso capsules from Home Bs - £1 for 10 and they went down nicely :T
Quiet weekend planned except for this evening's pub trip
Arranged to return wallpaper we don't need. Still got to arrange for 1 other roll to another place.
Around all weekend so looking forward to catching up with you all then.

Hi all
Happy birthday Dawn. Glad you had a nice day out CCL and thats a positive step for DH. Carrie hope you are OK.
Well we spent more today than I would have liked. Managed to find DS a coat for £25 but he also needed some other bits which added another £15. Lunch out, a game of bowling for each of the kids with their friends and a few quid for some sweets and thats £80 gone.
I really need to get a grip on the spending through November so I will also be adopting the envelope system. DS really wants to go to the bonfire tomorrow night.0 -
Happy birthday Dawn.
* OH and I are practising the art of having inexpensive evenings out within our entertainment budget. So we went for a one course meal and a drink in a local pub (£11) and a trip to see the Bond film (£12) taking £2 of sweeties and drink in as contraband. Didn't pay for parking, walked from outside the payable zone instead. The old me would have spent £100 easily for just the two of us.

Ally - I went to see 'Suffragette' last night & I also took contraband in with me ☺
Yorkshirelass - I have been using the envelope system for a while now. It took a few months of tweaking & everyone does it differently to suit their needs. I set up 6 Savings Piggies, which are just big tarted-up envelopes: Car, Clothes, Holidays, Presents, Household & Entertainment. Each month, when I set the budget, I split £200 between them, with target amounts for each one. There's room for flexibility because once there's enough in say, the Clothes Piggy, to cover any necessary purchases, I will then via that monthly sum into another Piggy, or transfer to emergency fund or car fund. I've come to saving later in life than I should have done, but now find it is helping with the sort of costs which regularly used to put me into the red each month.
