Friday 30th October - what small DFW things will you be doing today

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

  • Morning everyone :hello: I don't know if it's because I'm on my pad but it won't let me put a smile in the title, it just defaults it to the message - sorry DNMS :)

Hope everyone is good, very drab and rainy here, hope it brightens later, for the mood if nothing else :) list for today:
Try and make PAD I couldn't last night
    Update my spreadsheet
Try and pop to Mr S both for a few bits and get a couple of items for DD whilst clothes are 25% off, look for some stocking filler too
Go to wholesaler and get both girls Christmas present, hopefully they will still have it, it's half price to everywhere else I've seen it, it's very reasonable and weve decided we're just getting that one present for each of them
    Meals from stores
Visiting friend later, can walk, will take bottle of wine I was gifted
Washing rotated on radiator whilst on, they dry pretty quick so should be able to do load in a hour and then switch it off.
Eldest wanted seconds of breakfast as same variety as littlest had left, quick swap of bowls and some fresh on top and no one was any the wiser :rotfl:

Foxgloves really enjoying your blog, your garden sounds wonderful, I wish I had time for a big garden and to grow all your goodies. ** wanders off with some garden and growing envy ** ;)

    Enjoy your day everyone :)

  • Morning everyone

OK confession time. I have put the tumble drier on. Its pouring down again here and I havent managed to get any washing outside for days.

Going out with the boys today, need to keep a close eye on the spending. Mum has asked if we are going to see the fireworks in their village tomorrow night. We usually do go but its £4 each which is a lot for what's there. Will decide later.

Going to get tea in the slow cooker before we go out.

Thanks for the tip about Mr S jonno. Might be worth a look there at coats for DS.

Suppose I had better get some breakfast and move myself! Have a good day everyone x
  • I have a confession too... We got a takeaway last night. Mood was low, oh was hungry and prepared to pay...

A lot has happened Chez Moi in the past 12 months, but I'm hoping to cut costs again...

Today I've brought my packed lunch to work and snacks and drinks.

I do need to pay my car parking bill £10, but that is a planned expense.

With the weather so inclement, and washing still damp three days after being washed, I've come to the conclusion that I need to invest in a tumble drier; one that has an excellent energy rating, doesn't cost too much to buy and isn't ridiculously expensive to run once in a while (when the weather is too bad to dry outside)!

Hope it's a good day for everyone.

  • Good morning everyone :D
It's the last day of half term :( but it is payday!!! :j:j:j I have survived a skint October - now just a skint November to get through as well.
While we're all on with confessions - I'm taking the kids out for lunch today because we've done barely anything this holiday and we like an occasional lunch out. :o Not bringing dh though - he currently looks like he lives on the streets and I don't want to be associated with him... ;)
    Today's list
:D check banking and PAD :j
    :D take kids pumpkin carving
:D load of washing in but we too are bucketing with rain today
:D check all of my free lottery stuff
:D take coin jar to bank and use it to PAD to my emergency fund
:D pay for everything in cash - I'm using envelopes as well as YNAB this month
:D get dh to the doctors this afternoon
I think that's it - have a brilliant day everyone

    Morning folks,

Thanks for all the well wishes yesterday. It went ok but it was very sad. It was the first funeral that I've been to where we weren't expecting the person to die so it was very hard. Also sat down and opened the order of service sheet to discover that I was doing a reading!! I wasn't actually fazed as I do a lot of presentations and meetings with clients etc in work so I'm used to public speaking. I've also done readings and eulogies at funerals before so I thought I would be ok. Totally wasn't and sobbed through the whole thing, was a tad annoyed with myself but I don't think that anyone would think the less of me for it.

Onto more pleasant things today. Some mse, some not:
    • B/L/D from stores - really need to do some cooking. I don't have the oomph at the moment. Lots of picky snacky teas.
    • Charge phone in work
    • Upgraded my Vodafone plan to include more minutes. It will be £4.50 a month more but unlimited minutes.
    • Think about food required for Christmas party :)
    • Crochet - had to undo 6 rows last night as realised I'd made a mistake *cry*
    • Payday today! More than I thought (woohoo) so will sit with OH after tea and do the budget :)
Eeep work suddenly busy - will finish list later...

  • Carrie it's hard when someone you wasn't expecting to die dies. I've found it very hard since my mother died and we weren't close. Be gentle on yourself x
