What is cheaper, to hire or to lease? But I want to be able to stop the contract any time, within a week's or month's payment (without having to pay the whole rest contract or something).
Also, is insurance included in hired and leased? Or I need to get insurance myself? What if I exceed mileage? And who pays for the car maintenance?0 -

Just by your questions I can tell that this obviously isn't for you. Being a self employed van owner/driver is a minefield and it is very easy to end up working just to pay for the van. A job where you only work 5 hrs a day is doomed from the start, the usual is 12 hrs. When you consider that 1/3 covers the standing costs, 1/3 covers fuel and running costs leaving 1/3 for your wages.
Your standing costs will be the same 4 hrs worth, that only leaves 1 hour for running costs and wages. Oops, fuel alone will be more than that.0 -

Just by what you are saying, it clearly proves you have no idea what you are talking about.
Fuel is compensated by the company.
And what do you really mean by standing costs? that really costs 1/3?0 -
Fuel is compensated by the company.
At what rate

Technically self employed ? If so , public liability insurance , accountancy fees , business banking fees, possibly uniform. Holiday time, pension contributions , sick pay . The van, depreciation of value, tax, insurance, mot, servicing and general maintenance , loss of time whilst the van is out of use because of , add it all up . Comfortably 1/3.0 -
!!!!!!? what van depreciation, it's rented van!
And I don't think I will have to make a company. I will be an employee, but I will use my own car, that's it.0 -
what rate are they paying though as the average is 45p/mile no way are you going to pay for a van hire on that.
If you want better advise please give us some more information, for example what does the job entail, as i had to rent a van recently whilst mine was in for repair and insurance was included but Hire and reward (couriers etc) was specifically exluded0 -
With the economies of scale, the company could buy/lease/rent vans for much less than you will pay.
Q. Why don't they do that?
A. Risk. And they expect you to take the risk.0 -
